I’m totally new to this, and I don’t really want to create maps but I’d like to stick pictures (for example a picture in a picture frame, a painting of truman, a painting of hitler, etc). So what program would I use and how would I go about doing it, if you point me to a tutorial that would be fine too. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
How Do I Put Images Onto Walls
Well, the most direct way is to replace an existing picture. This doesn’t need to be done with radiant as LaggingTom said.
However, most of the time it’s kinda bad to replace these pictures, as you will need to modify your game install. This way they will only be seen on your computer AND you’ll need to put them in place of the existing pictures so that you can’t put back the old ones.
“So how do you guys add pictures to levels?” you may ask. This is now mapping, and you are simply changing the level so it uses another picture. You would get another level, but that wouldn’t be really popular as all people have to download YOUR changed level (again), even if they had the original one with it’s original pictures.
Conclusion: don’t change existing ones. Create new stuff, and see if you can make a mapper use your stuff so it gets showed to the world. Eventually learn mapping yourself, and show us some interesting stuff.
Actually, LaggingTom’s post wasn’t that un-usefull after all!
be carefull with hilter pictures, I remember an incident with the rtcw map frostbite back in the old days, the creator had to take out the hilter photo for the map to be accepted in a certain country for tourney play
Probably Germany, the famous ‘swastikis’ are forbidden over there as well. I believe it allso caused RTCW being denied for release.
RtCW was released in Germany (all swastikas etc. were replaced by the wolftenstein symbols in this version).
But when you look at some statistics, you will notice, that nearly one third of all servers are located in Germany. And German server admins will never install a map which includes (in Germany) forbidden symbols.
Correct. The result is another version of this map called Frostbite DE (DE = Deutschland = Germany). From the readme:
This is a version of Frostbite intended for use in Germany. All images and sounds that are illegal in Germany have been removed.
This version is NOT meant to replace te_frostbite in other countries. The map is not updated or changed in any way other than replacing 3 textures and 1 sound file.
You may get big trouble very fast if you host such a map with such content on a German server.
You not only get in trouble for swastika and pics of Hitler, but for a whole lot of other signs and symbols as well.
I have a whole lot of propaganda posters from WW2 and symbols and wanted to use some for my map The River II. I ended up using only a pic of a youth magazine showing a German battleship. On most of the posters you ll find forbidden symbols. Ok you may say, get photoshop. But that is only the obvious point imo. The thing is that they all stand for an idea which isn’t really a good one: fascism (the German version, there r lots of other variations). So I d in general not use any of those pics. And if you look at the pics used in RtCW you won’t find many with propaganda content as well.
And if I m right RtCW wasnt banned in Germany because of its content (which indeed was legal all the way) but because some student in Erfurt went nuts and shot about 17 ppl (teachers and students) of his old school using a shotgun and a Glock pistol and killed himself after that. Yea… don’t ask about political reasoning because he played CS and CS wasn’t banned. And RtCW wasn’t illegal, shops just were not allowed to advertise for the game so you had to buy it in those small backyard pc-game-shops (which I did)
