How do i make a transparent window?

(m9817376) #1

I’m a total noob and I’ve been searching through all the tutorials I could find to find out how to make my windows transparent.

I’ve already managed to get them breakable, but I’d like to be able to see through them.

I just can’t find how I should do it. Can anybody help me out of give me a link to a tutorial in which it’s explained?
I already searched manuals & forums, but couldn’t find anything.

Thanks!

The only trick is to apply a transparent texture.
You can find several windows that are trans in the “SFX” folder. Like “glass”, “tramglass”, “safety_glass”.

So if you have a “func_explosive” apply the “clip_weapon” texture found in the “Common” folder to all sides beside the one you are going to have the transparent texture on. The transparent texture will show on booth sides of the side of the brush u have applied it to so there´s no need to aplly it to more than one face of the brush!

Oh, ok, I assumed it could be done with any texture.

Thanks !!!

talking about clip_weapon and the like: what is the diffirence between a clip_weapon, clip_full, clip_metal and the actual clip?

The level designers reference (found in the help menu) covers this rather well.

hello all, I have posted another topic around the place somewhere about transparent stained glass. I have basically used a shader that someone gave me in that section. It goes as such :
textures/sg/sgface
{
qer_editorimage textures/sg/sgface.tga
surfaceparm trans
cull none
surfaceparm lightfilter
qer_trans 5.5

{
map textures/sg/sgface.tga
blendfunc gl_dst_color gl_zero
}
}

The qer_trans value stands at 5.5, but I have tried it at many many values, and i still can’t get it to look stransparent or cast a coloured shadow like it should. Could it be somehting to do with the fact that i made absolutely everything but the skybox detail. There is not even a hint of transparency or lightfilterage

dunno if these pics will work or not. It’s my first shader so i was quite happy to actually have it working as a straight texture but any help would be cool, and it would also help the guy who opened this topic
