How do abilities work?

(KAS--Will) #1

Any word yet? Because I just want to know most of this stuff, so when I get in game I won’t be overwelmed. Basically what I want to know is…
1. How are abilities unlocked? Do I get points, that I dispense on whatever ability I want? And how many abilities can I unlock, and do they carry over to my other characters?
2. How would an XBox LIVE party work? Do my friends and I party up, find a match, and get put on a team then we select our class?

Thanks, and I’m aware there might be posts already about this, could you please direct me towards the post/FAQ, I couldn’t find it.

Every time you level you get an ability point/coin. Each ability cost 1 point/coin. They aren’t really locked. Think more rpg, less call of duty.

The levels are splint into 5 ranks, 1-4=Rank 1, 5-9=Rank2… 20=Rank5. You can only buy abilities for the rank you are(and lower presumably). Thus from level 1-4 you can only by rank 1 abilities, level 5-9 you can buy rank 2 abilities(and presumably rank 1).

Thus your character gets 20 abilities. These abilities can be from any of the 5 categories. General, Soldier, Operative, Medic, Engineer. General abilities are for all classes. Abilities for a class only apply/work when you are that class.

There are two types of abilities, passive and active. Active abilities have to be mapped to the D-pad on consoles; therefore you can only have 3. You can have as many passive abilities as you want.

Abilities only apply to that character. Thus if you take downed fire for your first character, only he gets down fire. Other characters would also have to take downed fire in order to benefit form it.
