How can you make something about one piece

When you make a car and you want to make it when you select it you have the whole car. What do you have to do then?

select all the individual brushes, then right-click in the 2D views and select func_group. Then to select the whole thing again, you have to Ctrl+Alt+Click on one of the brushes to sleect it all.
