How about releasing the game this weekend

I haven’t touched my gaming computer for about 2 weeks… Can’t take it anymore.
And since we are talking about releases. What are the reasons behind US release being earlier before anyone else? I never understood that. Why is there a problem to release it everywhere at the same time?

I am just asking because I never heard any publisher explaining this.

(dazman76) #10

Basically, because of industry trends and the retail market. Games are released on Tuesday in the US, and Friday for pretty much everyone else. Because of this, retail stores plan their work/promotions/stocking etc. based on these days. It’s essentially a tradition, but changing it would genuinely mean screwing with these plans and upsetting retailers. The last people you want to upset, are the people who control shelf-space  Unless you’re EA of course, in which case the shelf space it technically yours and they’ll bloody well do what you tell them to do. Saying that though, I think even EA are bound to these release days.

Oh yeah, and charts - the charts are compiled at specific times, therefore you want to make sure that you genuinely get a week for that “first week of sales” period - so the numbers look accurate, and don’t indicate slow sales in the first week.

The nerve on Blizzard to release Starcraft II worldwide at the same date.

(Shadowcat) #12

When you are as big as blizzard, you no longer need shelf space or 3rd party advertisement to sell a game. So they cater to the players, not the stores.

SD wont do it, they wouldn’t risk pissing off mothers and wives for a long time.

(hazzzen) #18

I’m going out of state the same day that brink comes out =( I would have loved this game dropping today or even Monday. Oh well at least I’ll have a few hours to play it before my trip.

(riptide) #19

Is that one for console and one for PC or maybe one for each console?
