Hotfix Changes - July 30th, 2015

Released a couple of hours ago:

Balance Changes

[ul]
[li]The timings for the damaging portion of Melee Attacks have been updated to more closely fit the weapon animations[/li][LIST]
[li]Previously, the hit duration was very forgiving, meaning that weapons could still potentially deal damage well after the initial strike[/li][li]This also means that turn-speed limitations can end earlier, which gives players more freedom when performing melee attacks[/li][/ul]
[li]The allowed turn angle when attacking with melee weapons has been significantly increased and now scales with weapon damage[/li][ul]
[li]All melee attacks have been improved, and the lower-damage, high-speed attacks (Primary attacks for the Beckhill and Stilnotto knives in particular) have had their turn speed massively increased[/li][/ul][/LIST]
Bug Fixes and Other Changes

[ul]
[li]Blocked the KILLPARTICLES command from being usable[/li][li]Fixed issue with some loadout cards having missing first person arm textures[/li][li]Fixed certain account levels being unable to see level restricted servers in the browser[/li][li]Fixed a bug where players were prompted to select a Merc in the tutorial level[/li][li]Fixed a bug with Phantom where he couldn’t use Refractive Armor after repairing the EV[/li][li]In the past week, the matchmaking back-end has been updated to prioritise more balanced matches over quicker matchmaking times[/li][LIST]
[li]This should result in longer queuing times, but better matches[/li][/ul][/LIST]

Quick Little Update. (Nice Bug Fixes)

Glad to see SD’s quick reaction Melee!

This technically does count as a weekly update :smiley:

Side Note: I’m not a huge fan of the Reviving/Gibbing/Animation. IMO if a medic gets to you and paddles or Revivrs you, you should be up. Not this did I gib him wtf is he getting up stuff… I think its very close and just needs a few small tweaks; maybe with the timing.

Agreed. While I like that there’s more time to gib out a player, it feels strange sometimes. I’ve actually (irrationally) become angry at people after reviving them because I thought they killed out just as I revived. It led to confusion and anger on my part haha.

Eventually I figured out what was happening… tough thing to balance, no doubt.

movement feels better again… warping is still a major issue.

I don’t know if it’s gotten worse or it’s the heightened anger induced by being satisfied with movement again and dying an unjust death, creating the illusion of worsening warp… but the warping is still bad.

I also struggled to knife several downed players. Doing the run-&-slash move I found myself warped just a touch too far passed their merc once I clicked primary attack. I thought I saw it happen a few times before the hotfix, but this time going after a Sparx it felt, to me at least, obviously linked to my left click input.

I have played some rounds and I’m quite statisfied with the current state of the melee. It’s way better compared to the patch which added the limitations. It still feels a little bit off sometimes, but I guess I need to get used to it.
