It shouldn’t be that bad with a fast connection. I find typical DSL connections add ~10-40 ms for the first hop (depending on spead and interleave), and < 10 for everything between that and the backbone.

It’s also worth noting that most consumer hardware performs extremely poorly if the full capacity is in use, so you want to size your server such that it never maxes out the upload.
