horrible seeems with easygen

(fatbuddha) #1

i believe i have followed all the basic rules for easygen.

i only used one texture for the whole map,
exported it

everything ok

imported to et tool(radiant)

did the usual filled in the skkybox, created map coords, blue and red ctf spawns, info player deathmatch

compiled right,
loaded into et

dam seams everywhere, tears, or whatever u call em.

any idea why???

Well do you mean bad texture tiling, shadow problems or what?

(MrLego) #3

Make sure that once you start working on your map that you do not select the terrain by mistake and move or drag it.

If you accidently moved your terrain in Radiant you can get some awful seams and even create a leaky map.

A screenshot of it would help.

(BXpress) #4

you have got to work on the shader u exportet!
can someone tell him how? im too tired atm :bored:

(fatbuddha) #5

so i have to doctor up the .shader file i export.? hmmm. ya if someone can tell me of this soon pleas do so…lol

i have been doing ut editing for 3 years now, and it was so easy, but man , no where as powerfull as this editor. these maps are swweeeeet, and i reallywant to did my teeth into it, but so many bugs. Im hangin in there though

(Prophesy) #6

hmmm since the n00b I am I had to learn everything just recently I could try with a little tutorial.

I am not sure all these steps are needed, but this is what makes it work for me. (Sorry for the poor english)

  1. Get the file from here and follow instructions for install: http://digilander.libero.it/ilbanca/files/template_wolfet.zip
(This file makes your shader ET-friendly, although you will have to change a few things later).

  2. EasyGen your map, and export it (remember to export as wolfET!)

  3. Open your shaderfile for the terrian you just created in sctrips in a texteditor. “Move” the base texture at the very bottom to the top so that it it comes first. Save and close.

  4. Open shaderlist.txt in scripts too. Add the name of your map/terrain to the list (I am assuming map and terrain has the same name). Save and close.

  5. Open your map in gtkradiant and add mapcoordmins and -maxs and spawnpoints. See another tut for that. Also add a skybox if you havent already.

6.Compile.

That should make it work, and even make it possible to plant mines

(Prophesy) #7

Also make sure you have the latest version of EasyGen

(Frankesk) #8

I apologize for this inconvinience, this fact that easygen saves the “_base” at the bottom is a side effect to adapt the et templates to the old way that vertex lit shader was saved using previous templates.

BTW, the two terrain maps I made to test the templates compiled successfully without moving “_base” at top.

BTW, if you want to do so anyway, you can do it by pressing the “Preview” button in the export dialog, and cut/paste the text, if you dont want to go and locate the file after the export procedure…

(Prophesy) #9

Thanks for the tool, Frankesk
Once figured out, it’s not really a problem

(fatbuddha) #10

ok here is the latest update with my problems

the tearing seems to be the sky onlly. all the textureing done with easygen is ok

i export the terrain with skybox to radiant.

if i add a non shader sky texture to the skybox(all 5 brushes), it is fine, no tearing,

if i add a shader skytexture to all 5 brushes, tears and smears and whatever it does like crazzy. the shader tex as i know it is the tex box with the white outline is it not? and that is the one i want right?

and do u have to do anything to get the sky moving as well?
??
