If the dedicated server files are going to be available on steam, and i can run a server from my home, has it been mentioned if i can run the server from my own steam account on my personal PC, and also play on that server at the same time on the same PC and have people from the outside connect to it. I know this wasnt possible with CSS, or atleast it never worked for me, but i remember reading some info about this question, but i cant for the life of me find it again.:rolleyes:

obvious bandwidth problems aside, it would basically just be for a few friends at a lan and so my gf who lives out of state can also play with us.

I know you could do this for idtech3 games, and since you don’t need Brink to run a server, I would assume it runs standalone therefore allowing you to connect to it and play as well. I’m sure someone will clarify for you (me).

it is possible with CSS but nobody knows what it’ll be like with brink. keep in mind lots of ISPs forbid hosting servers though.

I can’t see why it wouldn’t work. You would have to download the server from HLDSupdate because Steam doesn’t allow running 2 applications at once, so you couldn’t run the server tool from the steam client. Just forward the appropriate ports in your router to the ip of your pc, and away you go. You’d have to connect to either <yourpcname> or 127.0.0.1, friends on the lan would connect to <yourpcname> or your lan ip (192.168.1.x / 10.1.1.x etc) and she’d have to connect to your ip (www.whatsmyip.org). :slight_smile:

If you have a spare PC though, it’d run better running on that.

Anyways has there been any news on linux binaries? I currently provide a linux server for our clan so it would be nice to be able to host Brink among other things :smiley:

some german guy said there would be linux serverfiles check the theread about german guys
