Hey mappers,

i tried using sky_goldrush texture (shader) for my sky, but when i go in-game it jus turns out to b a orange and black hologram, what am i doin wrong? are other people having the same problem or is it just me?

and also, my health/ammo cabinets just remiain empty, and they never fill up, i tried searchin n tutorials but couldnt find anything on either of my questions…

Thanks,

I’ve been having trouble with skies myself. I’ve read numerous tutorials and none of them tell you how to effectively (min, max ceiling height, etc.) add a skybox. I’ve had easy gen make one for me, but I don’t know if the ceiling is high enough or what. First off every sky texture I try, tiles. So I finally found out what a million suns would look like. Also when I shoot at the sky (LOL) it leaves bullet holes. Shrugs Sorry I’m a noob and I know all of your time is precious. Point me towards a decent tutorial please.

That would be because you are using textures rather than shaders i think, the shaders are the ones that have the white borders round them

i am using shaders stotty, sky_goldrush does have a white line around it in the texture window.

does it need to be a full box for it to work? or can it b jus 4 walls and celing connected?

I think I can class my problem as a sky problem, whenever I’m a field op my airstrikes are always called off because they can’t be seen. Again do I have to chose a sky that’s a shader?

(chavo_one) #6

You have to have “surfaceparm sky” in the shader for whatever texture you want airstrikes to work under. So no, it doesn’t have to be a sky shader, just a shader with “surfaceparm sky”

thanks

how do u find out if it has surface parm sky or not?

First of all, I would like to commend you deathmaster on improving your English since you joined. It is always much easier to help someone who takes pride in communicating clearly.

If you want to see the shader for the goldrush sky, look in the file scripts/goldrush.shader (I think…) If it’s not in there you can see other sky shaders in scripts/skies_sd.shader

EDIT: The goldrush shader is in scripts/skies.shader and is called sd_goldrush.

Or you can use the windows search mechanism to find all occurances of “surfaceparm sky” in the scripts directory.

thats all good, but how come it still does not show up as it should in game, it appears like a hologram, not a sky, or else, its just millions of suns. :expressionless: :expressionless: :expressionless: i also tried the goldrush sky which is a shader , but stil apears as a hologram.

do i need to make a separate brush for the sky?! as in a whole hollow box to put my map in? or can i just use a celing and four walls linked together manually.

if any of you out there know how to do dynamiteable objects, would be much appreciated…

lol, thanks for the language compliment  i guess it is easier for everyone

In my experience, when the sky texture tiles on the brush faces, then you are using the texture, not the shader.

Try this…open up the actual .map file in notepad and search for the following, “skies/sd_goldrush”. If you are truely using the goldrush sky shader, you’ll see this applied to several brushes. If you aren’t using the shader, you’re search will come up empty.

If you are certainyou are using the shader, then I can only help if I see the actual map file.

thats odd, it works now… thanks guy for the help, i didnt do anything else, i jus deleted it and made another brush, and added the shader to it, and now it works fine  thanks guys… woooo look at all the stars

Yeah I see what you mean, although not all of those work…well infact only one that ive gotten to work was the goldrush sky. The rest of them produce this strange bluring effect…its quite disconcerting. Not only have I seen a million suns, but now i know how jim morrison felt during that peyote scene!

thanks for the help tho…i’ll just stick with the goldrush sky

following are sky shaders, and most work properly in game, i havnt tested them all:

sd_goldrush
sd_batterysky
sd_seawallsky
sd_railgun

  • some more with white squares around them should work.

Hope it helps.
