Holidays are the worst time for updates

(TheVulpesFox) #1

Is it just me or do other people not like game updates and new content, events, whatever, during the holidays?
It is annoying because that is the time when I go on excursions, I leave my home to go somewhere else. Which means I probably won’t be able to play :frowning:
I know it’s kind of a 1st world problem but this school holidays I am going to Australia with family for practically the whole 2 weeks. Meaning I will miss out on 2 weeks of ReV.
Anyone else feel the same way. I know it makes sense to have events when there isn’t school/work (depends what your job is).

That’s the time when kids are out of school. Games are mainly made for kids.

Uhm, nope. High school and college mid semester breaks were 4-6 weeks ago in my part of the world. it’s not a standardized thing. What you’re asking is impossible.

I agree though about events that would last exclusively or largely during standardized holidays like Easter etc. - those should last longer to allow everyone to participate.

Well depends. I don’t think that many “kids” play things like Doom or Dark Souls, nor do I think that those games were marketed at children.

I mean… I had a long weekend for Easter, but that was a week ago now. It’s business as usual for the rest of us. The event is 5 weeks, at least you’re not missing out entirely.

For me its perfect. I dont go outside during my holidays, so those holidays update are the dream unlike when im at school i can farm the shit out of the event

The reason a lot of updates for games are released during holiday times is as others have said - school is out and kids are ready to play. Increased traffic during this time helps a lot and it would silly for a developer (especially of a F2P game) to miss out on the teeming market-place. Holiday times also see increased spending, especially in the games industry, so it’s kinda of a win-win to release an event or update around these times.

Most people take vacations in the summer too, so a spring get-away is actually not very likely for a lot of people (due to work). Hence why winter/spring holidays are prime-time for spending and activity!

Well… as long they don’t try pulling this “play 60 hours (or something like that) for snowman trinket in 14 days during Christmas holidays when people are spending time with their family” BS again.
(yeah yeah they extended it but that doesn’t change the fact that they intended to pull it off)

Exactly my thoughts. It was frustrating when that happened as I completely switch off my computer at times like Christmas. I did manage to knuckle down after they gave us the extension and get the lantern though.
But have you seen these trinkets coming in ReV! OMG pls gimmie!

That’s exactly what happened to me, though I was a 5-hour flight away from my computer visiting family, and I didn’t actually get all the way to 15 hours, but they gave me the lantern anyways.
