Holes in hills (caves/tunnels)

(MindConfusion) #1

Whats the best what to place tunnels/caves into your terrian hills/mountians?

I know csg subtraction is evil and I don’t really wanna use it.

The way I’ve started doing it is deleting parts that aren’t needed and rasing parts, its obvious this will take alot of time and placement.

Is there another to do this quickly and easily?

You can select large parts of your terrain using the various selection commands, and then use the clipper to cut the brushes.

Some people might suggest creating the terrain with the easygen ‘thin mesh’ options, but that also creates a less efficient bsp.

Thats probably the best way to avoid problems, slowly and carefully.

Slowly and carefully, is ALWAYS the best way to avoid problems. Some people hack thru their maps and then wonder why it doesnt work right.

So, in other words, like SCDS said, clipping (or edge manip) should work fine.

if you do vertex editing on terrain, I suggest locking certain directions. If you’re changing height, lock x and y so that the only movement the vertex can have is in the z direction - saves lots of headaches…
