Hochfir SMG For All?

Currently we see the Hochfir SMG used on Proxy, and what other mercs?
At the moment I feel that the Blishlock is being spread amongst a large majority of the mercs, but why should that be the only SMG that is spread evenly?

For me personally, I am not too fond of the other mercs because of this. I am a huge fan of the Hochfir SMG and it actually doesn’t need any modifications to what I can see. At the high level of competitive play it is actually very hard to kill someone during firefights as well as the fall off damage feeling like on of the highest.

Since the Fletcher patch I know a few people that are currently using the Empire 9 SMG on the shotgun class as their main SMG just because they dislike the blishlock, but why are we forced to play this weapon over the majority of mercs? I think that the SMGs should be evenly available, but put a certain rarity on the ones that you may feel are more powerful than others, or better still…do it without rarity.

There might be a counter argument that says the game will be overrun by the Hochfir, yes this might be true but wouldn’t you want people to enjoy the game more by playing the mercs and weapons they so desire rather than restricting them to a particular merc because of the weapon and therefore ending up not supporting the game as much when they feel they don’t need any of the additional mercs?

This is to only amend those mercs who currently have SMG available to them.

Nader has the hochfir as an alternative. But since she also has access to the crotzni and smg9 (which are practicaly the timik and m4 of the smg class) most naders don’t use the hochfir.

While I like customization. I doubt that we will see much more interchange of weapons. The weapon access for mercs plays a big role in the overall balance of them and allowing all mercs all weapons or a subset of them would mean a large rebalancing of speed HP and abilities.

Right now It seems to follow the pattern

  1. give merc a default primary.
  2. give a alternative primary that performs similar to the default (shotgun user, another shotgun, smg user gets similar smg )
  3. give a second alternative that is more specialized.

The blishlok is just one of the few specialized role alternatives in the game.
But my guess is that some of the mercs that are on the sideline right now have the hochfir as an alternative (+ one propably gets it as the default).

The Hochfir was Phoenix’s default in the past, I assume it will still be when he returns. If I recall correctly, Rhino also had it as its second alternate.

I think Hochfir is best on light mercs, who can move very fast, while taking advantage of its great accuracy.

Phoenix definitely underperformed wtih Hochfir, compared to Crotzni or Kek setups.

After my gfx card gave way a couple of weeks ago I was forced to use an old first generation dx 10 radeon card for a few days, and during this time I found that the slow and steady rate of fire from a Blishlock compensated for poor framerate and resulted in more accurate registration than other weapons. Something which shouldn’t be left out of the argument here is that a Blishlock performs a lot better for players who pull in very low FPS. If there is to be a global access smg and only one, it makes sense to me that we see one which works for those with lower tier systems.

In my opinion,(I main Nader), I like using the hochfir because of its accuracy, makes it easy to get headshots and finish damaged enemies(especially rhinos)from the grenade launcher. It is also just great for killing anyone that’s not a rhino on full hp.
