Hitsounds

(Raffle) #61

Oh sure, your entire argument is based around hitsounds being unrealistic but little did you know that all soldiers in WWII (and the upcoming war with aliens) wear a suit lined with various metals that produce a pinging sound when shot. So the irony is that you are the only one who was playing this game unrealistically.

I hope this post has humbled your stance on hitsounds sir. Don’t even get me started on wallhacks.

(signofzeta) #62

This is how the hitsounds should be. Seriously.

No, not for the actual game, but as a joke mod.

(Father) #63

No hitsounds at all

Why? If hitboxes are not next-gen technology (like promised 16 hitboxes for head in CoD4) - hitsounds are crapy cheats. You can shout somewhere where you see nobody and you hear hitsound? Ehgr, no…! Same is firing throw smoke or fog. You can just fire somewhere into fog and you will hear hitsounds. If will be HSs off - you won’t do that… becouse you dont know if someone is there…

(einer) #64

Heh, one of those whiners.

(Stone) #65

Watch two skilled ET Teams battle it out in ETPro, then comment on these “methods of abuse” for hitboxes.

(San_Pedro) #66

Think of hitsounds like a person screaming from getting shot… You would know if you were shooting someone if they were in fog or hiding just from that alone, so hitsounds make perfect sense to me.

(McAfee) #67

There is a difference between pain/impact sounds, versus a DING DING DING which doesn’t fade at a distance.

Thanks to the original Sound Blaster and it’s DSP chip, we can now sample sounds at qualities higher than 22 kHz and with a precision greater than 8-bits. That’s good enough for both recording something better than a synthesized ding and to even fade the sound at a distance… WOW!

Note: ETQW does not support the SoundBlaster v1.0

(einer) #68

The poll shows a total “Hitsounds, Always on. Traditional beep/ding. (Q3/Q4).” dominance, even there are much BF and like players here… So i don’t see a problem.
If i can aim, i will hit/kill, if there is sound or not. If it annoys you turn off your speakers :stuck_out_tongue: .

(nappy) #69

Poll is incomplete. Client side should have been an option.

(McAfee) #70

Do I neet to explain this again? If the game is going to feature hit sounds, a client-side option should be coded in already. No need to vote on that, there is no reason not to have it. You shouldn’t force people to listen to something they don’t want to.

If the option is not there, I’d expect it on the 1st patch. It would be the reasonable thing to do.

(einer) #71

No need for client side.

(SniperSteve) #72

You all make too much of a fuss about the hitsounds. It doesn’t really matter. Just let SD work it out.

(Sauron|EFG) #73

You don’t have to like it and can lobby all you want for them to be removed, but calling something that’s built into a game for everyone to use a “cheat” is just ignorant.

Reminds me of a former member @ this forum who claimed that hiding behind revived (invulnerable) teammates is cheating. :moo:

(SubstandardJones) #74

Psst! Hitsounds were not built into the game. They were added by an unofficial mod. Don’t tell anyone though. Based on how many people seem to realize it, it must be a secret! SHHH!

(Sauron|EFG) #75

That still doesn’t make it a cheat.

Besides, I had the impression we were including ET:QW in the argument. :stuck_out_tongue:

(SubstandardJones) #76

Well then double-jumps aren’t a cheat either. Let’s put that into the game. Nothing is “really” a cheat if everyone agrees to use it, but that doesn’t mean it’s good for the game.

(Sauron|EFG) #77

Nobody ever claimed that.

They don’t even have to agree to use it. An intentional feature that is available to everyone is neither a cheat nor an exploit, regardless of who happened to add it (SD or modders) and how much you hate it.

It doesn’t mean it’s bad for the game either. It’s apparent that SD do think that hitsounds are good for ETQW, and I really can’t say that they are wrong without playing the game myself.

Now stop confusing “features you don’t like” with “cheats” please.

Btw, it’s actually possible to “probe” for enemies through smoke in standard ET (without hitsounds) by looking at the tracers. Hitsounds does make it a lot easier though.

(ir) #78

Hitsounds are a really bad idea if you want a pseudo realistic looking game.

There’s no hitsounds in CS and it’s no problem. Perhaps it’s good for deathmatch…

(madness) #79

you make a big deal out of nothing here… :expressionless:

(ayatollah) #80

The fact you confuse audio(hitsounds) with visual(pseudo realistic looking) says it all for me. QW will not be pseudo realistic looking game, although come to think of it I did see something driving down the street that looked like a vehicle from QW.
