I’ve been noticing post-patch that hit sounds and hit detection in my on-screen UI are significantly delayed for me now.

Example:
I have my cross-hairs on the enemy.
I press fire.
I see the animation play and the shot fire.
A second later, I get the +XP reward and I hear the sound.

I wonder if this is a byproduct of the netcode revisions… It reminds me of watching CoD killcams where it was abundantly clear that each player was experiencing a different version of CoD-videogame-reality (i.e. depending on the connections, it might not even have shown my character firing a shot).

In the pre-patch games, the sounds and actions were in sync, but the terrible frame-skipping rubber-banding lag was much worse.

Random games of Big Teams online Brink are definitely playable now, but the in general frame-rate choppiness seems to have given way to a hidden layer of latency.

Twitch games like CoD eternally struggle with this latency, because Connection to Host becomes King (or is ‘compensated’ for in netcode). The only P2P game developer that I feel has nailed the implementation of netcode is Bungie. I hope that Splash Damage continues to make improvements to Brink’s netcode, Matchmaking, and Host Migration.
