Hey, I’ve played fps competitively since quake 1 (well when I used to play competitions etc) and one thing I’ve used often in games is the flash & sounds of being hit by someone and how it told me the severity of damage. Such as quake 2 having different pain sounds for different dmg inflicted.
Now, it may be just me, but I find the blood splats a bit too silly, esp. when the screen is surrounded by very ugly drawings of blood like a ‘merry Christmas’ poinsettia arrangement. But more importantly, the sounds and bright red flashing doesn’t feel to me to match the damage i just took- ever. I would find myself retreating behind a corner expecting to be at very low health after a bunch of bright flashing, effects & sounds just to find out I lost maybe only 12-20+ dmg. obviously while I am shooting someone, I will not be staring at my health in the corner until I can spare the attention for it. Esp. when I am wiimoting and far away from my hdtv.
I don’t want someone to jump in here and say- well you can turn that stuff off! No, that is not what I am asking for.
I am asking if it can be considered to make it more- dmg appropriate, reduce the blood on the screen- since it doesn’t enhance the experience competitively. Also to make the flashes more - directional, so I know where I’m getting slapped from.
