Hiding levels in Pubs

(Izzy) #1

Hello everyone.

I am more and more convinced that levels shouldn’t be shown in pubs either, at least before the very end of a game.

Low level people, when entering a server, first look at the composition of a team and check for the levels. Either they are all in the same range and proceed, else, a high level player is in (or more) and things start to go wrong.
They either quit before playing, mid game, and make the game even worse for players that stay.

Psychologically, it is a really wrong move to have put levels in scoreboard as people nowadays complain before being hurt.

Rare are the people that see the training opportunity to play against a high level, and only cares about wining (or should I say whining?).

It wouldn’t be the same if levels would be shown at the very end of a match. If you have been dominated, then you realise someone has a higher level, and in the end, you did well.

How many times salty people told me “go get a life”, “go play in comp” during a game. That ruins the game of the low level and the high level players. (forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/20090/when-over-committing-paid-off#latest)

If there are server for lvl5- and you don’t want to be stomped, go there. If I want to play with ‘high’ level players, I ll go in level 10+ servers (If I can find one). If I don’t want to bother, I just go in standard servers but then, don’t get pissed off and before all, don’t piss me off.

Second thing, regarding the player level function which surely scales as 1/x, maybe you should introduce servers such as:

lvl 5- servers
lvl 10- servers
standard servers

This way, people that don’t want high level in their match are fine. Higher level people can all be together, and with people that understand the risk of being in a standard server. I am not aware about the player base (I d be glad to look at the data, Dev, if you could share this :slight_smile: ) but I think that would better handle the lower population of high level players.

What do you think?

Cheers

No one uses the LEVEL 10 servers in the AUS region though.

I’d rather see an icon of win ratio of last 5 matches.

[color=‘red’]Red for < 1
[color=‘green’]Green for > 1.5
[color=‘yellow’]Yellow for in-between

So on the scoreboard you will only see Red icon, Green icon, Yellow icon next to player names.

It’s nice to remove prejudice from the scoreboard. It’d be even nicer if I can tell who is more likely to team work which win ratio tend to indicate.

All I know is last night was pretty bad for someone I play with on occasion. Not on my friends list or anything just see him or her on from time to time. Got ragged on so much just because of the level of the account. Felt bad how much people were accusing this person for aim botting and beating on low levels

I don’t know what’s worse… People leaving games because of a high level player, high level players losing sleep over in-game chat, or you trying to get the developers to hide player levels as if their customers are kindergarten kids.

I catch hate from somebody almost every single game. I’m not exaggerating. Almost every game. And I’m only level 55 which isn’t so rare (in the US anyway) these days. I handle it just fine and typically don’t respond or just mention that I played in CB when they last reset stats if I say anything. But people will rail on me, rail on the game and quit the game constantly based simply on the number next to my name and do so constantly.

Account levels have very few positive benefits right now. I usually have the ShadowPlay DVR running when I play. I should start recording all of this and make an hour long movie of people simply hating on me due to level. And I can’t imagine how bad it is for guys in the 70’s-90’s. That’s why I want merc levels back that are 1-10 so you know a 10 has experience on that merc but you won’t be expecting the world from them and others won’t flip out because the leveling stops at 10. I’ve made quite a few posts about this type of changeover so I won’t go into the details.

i once got insulted for dying as a lvl 12 when facing - and get this - 3 single-digit-lvl enemies at once. oh, sure, i’ll just kill them all with my lvl 12 might.

most of the time, the lvl signifies amount of time played more than overall skill. i could suck at the game but still manage to score the odd kill, plant the bomb that goes off, defuse when there are no enemies around etc and i’ll eventually hit 10.

I’ve played plenty against you amerika, always a nice a challenge. Though yes, kinda disappointing to see so much dribble in chat when you just want to relax and play some games

the insults become hella funny when text to speech is toggled on tho XD

Don’t worry, I am not loosing my sleep over in-game chat, I usually then go fully brutal against whiners which release my frustration and help to sleep well :slight_smile:

And I don’t agree with you for the last part either. This is what I consider to be a bad move in this game to show level in pubs. This game is in beta, meaning that Developers want feedback to make even the slightest improve to their game to ensure the good quality for everyone. I therefore just throw my thought to all players to see if it make a consensus, and Devs will react accordingly if they judge they need to.

And do I considered their customers as kindergarten kids? No, just people that get easily frustrated because of the release of adrenaline or other pituitary gland releases, and can easily become irritating to other people that just want to have fun and don’t want to spend 1min per game muting everyone.

@Amerika : I completely agree with you, a level per merc would be much more useful.

I don’t want people to see my level (33 atm), cause it often makes me try harder, makes me want to prove something, somehow I feel obligated to play effective and in a certain fashion, which I don’t necessary like. Sometimes when I haven’t done well I get frustrated, which is stupid of me, but can’t really help it.
I don’t want to dominate anybody and do not care for winning, just want to have fun and be creative, with friends or alone, while having a drink or a joint.

I would feel more comfortable if levels were hidden.

Same here, I’m a 64 level and EVERY day/game I have to face those “players”. It is quite frustrating and exhausting having to explain them (when I’m on the mood, if not, I just ingnore and tbag them :p) that levels means nothing in DB.
Remove levels (I prefer ranks), they are useless and pointless, and only spoil the fun for most of us.

It’s funny to see people complain when I join a server meanwhile only being lvl 28 :stuck_out_tongue:

(DancingCorpse) #14

It would probably help us low level players if the general impression we have gotten from players we have encountered over level 20 so far wasn’t of complete jackasses. Constantly stacking the teams against the low levels (and gloating about it in chat), always trolling and spouting off racsim and homophobia, never anything civil or tame to say, and I just came out of a game where I spoke up ONCE on my mic asking everyone quite nicely to stick together because we were getting slaughtered when we didn’t, and two players in the same clan (one in 50s levels and the other the 30s) started yelling on their mics that I am retarded and went on a tirade in the chat as well about me for no reason. All I did was ask my teammates to stick together.

I started playing 2 days ago and this is the only behavior I have seen from anyone above level 20. I think I might continue trying the game out, but I doubt I will keep coming back if that is the only way we will be treated. I know I most likely will be leaving games where I see people over level 20. I want to have fun, not hear and read a constant stream of negativity, racism and homophobia used to push out us new players. The games rewards for playing free are not NEAR enough to make me want to continue playing and possibly spend money here when I am constantly seeing that kind of behavior and community interaction.

joins halfway through the map, gets flamed for not topping the score at the end…

Yeah, I’ve only ever seen levels shown being a problem, what benefit does it really serve other than opening people up to be attacked?

(pumpaloaf) #19

That collage of level shaming chatter looks so familar. I think I’m gonna make my own. Forget costumes, wallpapers and pumpkin carving. THIS should be the next contest!

(Frogteam) #20

I kinda like the “How can you kill that, which has no life?” one though. At lvl 24 or so I appear to be just below the “getting harassed for level” threshold.

As my level increases I expect both the number of attacks on my level and the number of matches I go melee only to increase exponentially.
