Hi, everybody

(Gaunt) #1

Hello everybody!
I started reading this forum two months ago. Reason? I play Enemy Territory, and one day I decided that would be nice to play a selfmade map with friends. I work with 3D and use Maya for it. But never made anything for videogames.
Many info I found in this forum had been very usefull, and what I made (lol telling the true I still have lot to do with my first map) is thanks to what is written on these pages. So first of all thank you.
Don’t know if really makes sense to learn how to map for a game a bit old, but I really love this game and the teamplay that comes with it, but, well, who cares ?!
So see you on the forum!

Welcome
Good news for you: the W:ET map editor is quite like the ETQW one, and probably also much like the Brink SDK!

Thanx
I’m using GtkRadiant1.4.0. I know that it isn’t the latest version, but the tutorial I’ve followed at the beginning (very good have to say) used this version.
The main problem for me is that many things that concern modelling and texturing part of the map, in Maya would have been done in half of the time. Ok, btw stop whining and first question: which software do you use for mapping workflow?

Hi and welcome ,

Well ,I’ve made the terrain map with EARTHSCULPTOR , easy to use to fast result !
http://www.earthsculptor.com/

  • export in .obj file to the CINEMA 4D or 3DS MAX to generate UV & assigne material “megatextures_gaunt” and then just import into EDITWORLD of ETQW to start work on Your textures, mask to generate megatexture.

here’s my first test on my “Red Rocks” -

and now You have to follow the wiki of SD -

Hey iWi thank you for the answer and tips.
Ok, you’re talking about ET:QW (nice picture!), but what about Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory.
As I’ve wrote I’m new to this world and I like W:ET, but building a map with radiant is really complex and wish to know if you guys use any 3d software to speed up the process and how.
I’ve never played ET:QW and I’ve read that it is a “class-based, objective focused, team-oriented” game so I’ll try it.
Thanx for all the welcome

(brbrbr) #17

should be great for Martian[chronicles?]stuff.

(Donnovan) #18

:infiltrator: Donnovan says Tra la la…

… and hi.

Welcome Mapper!!!

I’m also a mapper. I use:

  • ETQW SDK 1.5 (main program)
  • Blender (3D suit)
  • World Machine 2.0 (terrain mesh)
  • Gimp (image edition)
  • Audacity (sound edition)

Hey thanx again for replies!
A couple of days ago I’ve bought ET:QW, nice graphic and love to see W:ET classes!
Now I’ll check the sdk to see how works.
I love these games, and I like to see how things are built…to try and build myself.

@Donnovan
Thanx for the info. I’ll check that software too.
@stealth6
lol I don’t really want to fill u, and hell, I will not let you fill me!!
