Hi Again :) Question about texture.

(Benfun7) #1

Hi,
I did a search and still can not figure this out. How do I make my texture curve. Like if I had a Square block of grass could I put a round dirt spot in the center. So it would look like trucks had drove in a circle there and messed up the grass.

If you dont understand my question tell me and I will explain better.

Thanks,
Ben

this should work i dont know if it will look as good as you want it to but draw a brush the size of the dirt spec you want then go to the brush menu and make it a prism 6 sides should be good i dont know how meny you can do but the more the rounder and then if you have to just flip it till its the right way and then use the CSG subtracter to cut the hole out and texture it to the dirt you want and make sure that it is right all the way to the front of the window and back if you want it to be on bolth sides before you cut it i hope this helps oh and one more thing if you used the texture common/glass you cant cut it for the prism as far as i know

Or, you could leave the terrain as it is. Create a new custom texture. A texture with tire-marks that go around. Write a shader for it. Then make a brush in the editor, that lies ontop of the terrain. Just a little bit above the ground. Apply the texture to it.
Compile.
In the game, you will have the terrain and ontop of the terrain you will have tire-marks (that go around in a circle).
Drakir has done this, but with footprints. Go to www.drakir.tk and download the shader and .map file for northpole (the map). Then open northpole in your editor and “fly” to a house near the flag. You will find the terrain and the foot-print texture there (near a door).
You can use Drakirs shader if you rename it. Then you need to draw your own tire-mark texture.

Great Ideas!!!
Thanks so much.

Ok lol I have another question

I made my own texture and I put it in my fuel dump folder. My texture shows up fine in Radiant but when I load the map into the game the area where my custom texture should be shows up as that orange checker board.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks Again!!!
Ben

First you should create a separate folder for your own textures. Name it “Benfun” for example. What size does your texture have? It must be a square like 8x8, …, 128x128, 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024 pixel so the engine can handle it.

Oh ok. Where do I place my “benfunfolder”? When I place the texture in Pk03 and try to play wolfenstein it says somthing like Unable to load official Pak file. I had to reinstall ET to get it to work.

You custom textures should be in etmain/textures/benfun then. If you do it in this way, you always know where your custom textures are and don’t have to search for them when creating a .pk3. Simply put the folder “benfun” (with it’s strcuture starting above etmain --> textures/benfun) in your .pk3. Hope you understand what I want to tell you :blah:

The textures do NOT need to be square. Their dimensions need to be powers of 2 but not necessarily equal. A 512x256 or 128x512 texture is perfectly fine.

Sorry, The Wanderer is absolutely right. I should better go to bed now than giving out wrong information :bash:
