Hey Splash Damage, Brink is my favorite online game ever, and I'd buy 12 Brink 2's!

Brink’s movement is clunky. The ADS is a bit clunky as well. Parkour could’ve been implemented a bit better. The story, however interesting, was not implemented well either. Having said that, 7 friends and I just put 3 more hours into Brink together, and it was some of the most fun I have ever had online. Oddly enough, I can say that about any time I play Brink. This game is not just a breath of fresh air for me, it is an entire friggin tank of oxygen. Rasberry flavored oxygen. (yes, that’s a good thing)

It is dissapointing to know that Brink does not have a large community, but honestly, who needs one? I have been having no trouble getting into full games, and believe me, they are INTENSE to say the least. Stalemates are inevitable in a competetive matches, and using teamwork to fight your way out of one is so much more fun and rewarding than in any other game I can play. “Hey Cadco, I’ll throw you a syringe, and get out, Slight and YoYo can cover on either side of the bot. Legendary and I will try and flank” or “Guys we’re running out of time! Make a final push to the bot! It only has a couple of seconds left for repair and it is close to the crane! Let’s meet up at the middle exit and jump down at once. You guys clear the guys around it and I’ll start to repair right away.” … These are the kind of reports that you can expect to come regularly when participating in a well-played game of Brink.

There are other fun team-based, objective-based shooters out there, and I have played and enjoyed most of them. Regardless of that, Brink is the most fun I have had.

We are extremely excited for the clan support that Brink is going to get soon, and I am so grateful that Splash Damage supported and fixed this game even after all of the negativity at launch. My friends and I noticed how negative the people on this forum are, and I thought I would come and give my opinion.

So the thing you like about BRINK is that you can communicate with your friends? The rest is clunky or badly implemented?

So basicly you like something about BRINK that isn’t a part of the game itself. How awesome dude.
You should try a lot more games and turn on your mic, and then buy the sequel all 12 times

(cadco96) #3

Haha, no. The ability to use my mic is not why I love Brink. I was just giving an example of how Brink allows us to use communication.

As for the problems I stated… I only put them there to show that I acknowledge their existence and was not in any way trying to deny the fact that they are there. However, I didn’t state all of the good things about Brink either. I wanted to state how much I enjoy Brink and would support a sequel on a site that gets so much undeserved hate from people who probably don’t even play the game, much like yourself.

(tokamak) #4

Haha yeah who?

(cadco96) #5

As long as I am having no trouble finding games, I can do without! I love a close community! But to each his own.

(INF3RN0) #6

Says a lot about how much re-playability of the actual game play there is when people who love the game are already asking for more maps/gear/etc and Brink 2 a few months after release…

(yoyohip) #7

I think you misunderstand. First off, how is the replay value bad when these people who love the game play it non stop with the small but close community? i think the people who love this game want a second one so bad is because they want to see the active players grow, and the bugs that yes, are present, fixed and the basic mechanics improved. It says nothing about the replay value what so ever. The fact that they want more gear or maps, is not based of the lack, but the desire to have more. I believe it does not lack maps or gear, but like most, i desire more. I don’t see whats the matter with that at all.

(INF3RN0) #8

I think you miss the part where a ton of these Brink lovers focus on making max lvl 20 characters, getting achievements, buying all the DLC gear, etc. Then when it all runs out they want more DLC maps/gear because that is their motivation to play apparently? A prequel is not even going to help the community, since the majority of people do not like the game. A prequel would have to be drastically improved, as the only things worth keeping is SMART movement (with improvement) and maybe the aesthetic options. The past games never needed all the bells and whistles because people enjoyed the polish and reward of the core game play alone.

(yoyohip) #9

I would have to almost completely disagree. I know numerous amounts of people that love this game, and are not in anyway set on making level 20 characters. I, like many other i have talked to and played with, are simply in love with the style of the game and the aspect of team objective based gameplay. No, not just CoD domination, but actual objective based gameplay focused on communicating with your entire team to work for a common goal. The fact that there are people that, as you said, do not like the game, does not in any way mean they should not release or think about a prequel/sequel. I can think of multiple games that the first or even second game, was mediocre at best but when they made another one not just the true fans, but other people around the world fell in love with it. My point is you can always improve video game, and brink is no different. DO i think that you should keep every single element that they tried to put in the game? No I’m not because that would impractical. But in no way do i think that the SMART system is the only thing worth keeping. There are a lot of things to be polished and tightened up. But not destroyed and never used again. Again, this is just my opinion. Nothing personal to anyone who disagrees.

I am really Psyched for finaly finding a game community where everyone is so close nit which each other and how almost everyone knows everyone else… Im also glad i found a group of guys to play this game with. and I really look forward to anymore support splash damage gives this game!!

(SockDog) #11

LOL, It’s like the Brink Support Group (BHC?) agenda for the weekend is, “post something positive on the SD forums”.

So you’re saying you enjoy eating at an poor quality restaurant because it isn’t packed with happy customers. There’s a thing called a friendslist that enables the community features you value without needing the game to be startlingly unpopular at the same time.

(DarkangelUK) #12

Heh I was thinking the same thing, they probably all have each other on their friends list. It’s nice the consolers are getting something out of it, but the group “everyone post a nice thread” tactic is a bit patronizing and obvious tbh.

(tangoliber) #13

People want shooters to feel like the shooters that they are most accustomed to. When it doesn’t feel the same, then the word often used is “clunky”. It isn’t clunky…it just doesn’t feel right to you, because you are used to how it feels in a different game. One example is aim assist on consoles…which is often implemented in a different way in different gamse…almost every game has a different degree of snapping, magnetism, tracking, and acceleration, though some just opt for the most popular feel.
Typically, when someone says that aiming or ADS is clunky, what they really mean is that it doesn’t have enough aim-assist, or it doesn’t have the kind of aim-assist that they are used to.

(tangoliber) #14

I’m one of those people that only needs 1 map and can play that forever if it is great…
However, it doesn’t matter how replayable a game is, people will always be happy to get more maps/gear for a game that they love.
Back in the day, I probably put 1000 hours on the Coret Facility in UT99. I was still happy to find a cool new map.
I put 750 hours in Killzone 2, and 75% of that time was probably spent on the same 2 maps that every clan plays…I would still have loved to have a new map pack.

Brink is one of the best games to come out in a long time. Best shooter of 2011 hands down.

(SinDonor) #16

I would agree. Brink has ruined me for other shooting games. I hate not being able to SMART in other games and I hate being killed by a no-scope cross-map headshot. RAGE QUIT!

Good post, very true. Quite sad how only the trolls have responded to this thread. Where did all the nice people go?

I’m confused, both normal and BHC guys posted…

We’ve gone through this before, I ain’t feeding
