Hey SD: Console matchmaking fix proposal

(Sleepy) #21
To Sleepy: I wish they could include a INSANE AI bot level because with a team of 8 we still kick HARD AI bot ass.

I just said make it variable because the game should always be checking to see how the teams are stacked and what the XP per min rate is. If one team is crushing the other, ramp up the BOT difficulty ASAP. This way, incase the game is filled with a bunch of newbs, they’re not gonna get destroyed by a bunch of terminator T-1000s.

Remember the days when everyone was bitching about the bots being too hard? Bunch of whiners.
I did the campaign on hard alone so I thought hard was hard. Maybe I just needed more Brink friends back then :stuck_out_tongue:

In light of your new information about 8 players crushing hard bots easy, I guess what I meant to say is default the AI at hard and ramp it up to insane when one team is crushing another.

Got the game on amazon sale, and got into online freeplay after I finished the campaign on hard, so I didn’t really have a chance to experience or complain about the hard bots in freeplay before the patch XD

Since we’re talking about bot AI, I noticed in every game, there’s always one bot shoots a lot better than other bot. It’s like you turn the corner, you see the bot, and you’re dead. Just make every bot like that and we have no problem. Hmmm… I think…

Perhaps not THAT insane. If every bot by default can kill every human instantly like those hero bots do, then it’ll start to be frustrating, especially for lower level players. Maybe have 1 or 2 bots at that level and then scale the number of hero bots up and down depending on how the humans are doing XP and kill wise.

I still have nightmares about hard AI bots with shotguns.

Bots should be insane hard in a mode with better teams like a Clan setting. While you’re skrimming with your clan or warming up, you could do it against bots and random lonewolf players who begin to join.

(SinDonor) #24

Yeah, if SD could start them off on HARD, then just keep an eye on XP gains by the human teams, then they can ramp them down to MEDIUM/EASY if the humans are newbs, and possibly all INSANE AI if the humans are good.

I do notice that the 1 or 2 INSANE HERO AI SUPERBOTS always seem to get headshots against me from across the map.

(wolfnemesis75) #25

I wouldn’t mind if they were able to pull that off.

There is a new Thread in the Community Section that has to do with [thread=30815] Matchmaking! [/thread] It would awesome if you could list out some suggestions, Sin Donor!

(DarkangelUK) #27

Yeah… there’s a big announcement that shows it at the top of this forum section.

I just posted the link to this thread. Thanks!

There’s some good ideas here, don’t know if all of them are implementable.

Except the host migration part:
If I’m playing on a European host server, that’s the way I like it. I don’t want the host to migrate just because a buch of Americans joined with their team. They should be the ones looking for another server, not us.

Connection quality is subject to geographical location, a European host can have very good connection to all regional players untill the geographical average is shifted just because some Americans joined. That doesn’t mean his connection is low or inadequate.

Well, maybe then they can set some flag that states if a server is started in a specific region, it’ll never change hosts out of that region. That’s fine by me. If the matchmaking was better, US players should never be auto-joining a Euro host unless there was a private invite.

(tangoliber) #31

Host advantage is not as bad as it was before. It still is an advantage, but unless you are playing a clan match, it shouldn’t matter. When I play with people on a different continent, it feels fine for the most part.

I would actually like for them to remove all regional restrictions, now that the lag is gone, so that matchmaking will be more active.

My opinions are similair to what’s been said but I feel like chucking my input into this, see if anything good comes out of it…

Under freeplay you should be able to also search for a co-op game, and under campaign you should also be able to select the match settings. They should also merge the private and public options under freeplay by just including a visibility option under public.

The match settings should be either standard mode (but with public voice) or advanced mode (same as standard mode but with friendly fire, no death spectating and also with public voice). Feel free to call me up on this one but…. Overtime is great, command post buffs give command posts a reason to exist and making chat squads is an outdated annoyance.

It will search for games based on all the criteria selected, if a suitable game is found it will deposit you in it or into its waiting lobby.

If no adequate games or waiting lobbies are found for your criteria then a lobby is created, where you must wait until there is a minimum of 3 players per team before the game CAN start, once it goes beyond that if at least 2/3 of the people have readied up the game will start as apposed to waiting for more players, and (as you said, then I changed the value) once it reaches at least 6 people per team a 30 second timer will initiate (perhaps with an audio cue?) and the game will start.

Well that’s my input.

I liked your afk point, you don’t see it that often but once I had 3 afk’ers on my team, t’was a bad day for society.

I do hate that the bots are retards/mercenaries, and I reckon something like which you suggested could remedy this, but I must say the bots do go full force when an objective timer starts getting low, most of the time this can change the outcome of the objective because you get rushed all at once by a team of robotic pirate super ninjas.

I don’t care if you destroy my precious opinions, but if you do, make sure you do so with style.
Well, that’s all folks!

The region options should definitely stay in games, it’s probably why LAG has been less in some games like Brink. If the filter can be turned off and on, you can still chose and see the difference.

It’s just impossible to play on a P2P server outside your own region these days. Until everyone has unlimited fibrewire connections, I think it’s the best option.

(Adam2me) #34

The problem is we have lots of games with a few people in them, we shouldn’t be giving people the option to create matches, and it shouldn’t search for games that are over 50% full. This will just further the problem of empty matches as Brink doesn’t have enough players available for a system like this to work. What I mentioned above is going about it more the CoD way, if there are NO suitable matches or waiting lobbies available after several sconds of searching, then it creates one and you wait for the lobby to fill up until ther is enough players to start the game.

Something like that would produce full games, because you have no other choice.

Now if it only had a lobby system where you and your firends could all join/search at once, like every other fps has, would be perfect.
