Dp ftw 10 char

Wouldn’t it be weird if it said:

This game *****
Pope Benedictus, Closed Alpha player on their main page? Not saying that the game ***** , but those statements mean nothing.

TBH I think splashdamage shouldn’t do a thing like this after Brink. I remember that when Brink launched they only showed the websites on their mainpage that gave it awesome marks.

(rookie1) #4

It means something …ask them ^
its not about SD that glorify the game …its the gamers talking

(Ruben0s) #5

Yea, but splashdamages picks the quotes. I’m pretty sure that they wouldn’t pick a quote that said something bad about the game, not saying that there are any quotes like that.

(rookie1) #6

Would you picked the Bad quotes if it was your Baby ?
…At the end …for sure …there will be some bad quotes …its like that on every game…
They important is that the majority LOVE IT

(Ruben0s) #7

Of course I wouldn’t pick a bad quote if it was my business. And I do understand that every business in the universe does the same, but that doesn’t mean that I should like it.

(rookie1) #8

Do you think you could Please 100% of the gamers …if it was your baby?

(Ruben0s) #9

No I don’t think you can please everyone. But my point is that it doesn’t mean much as it’s someone opinion.

Lets say that I made my own game called Barbies naughty adventures. The game totally sucks balls 99.9% of the people hate it, and maybe 5 people like it because they are weird. I would pick those 5 people for quotes on my main page. So would every other company in the world that wants to make some money.

Than your Honest !

I understand your point but thats not the case for DB…imo
I see some **** movie saying ads <Best action movie this year …-Movie review bla bla>
I never take serioustly comments like that no more
probably the same thinking as you.
What all im saying is some love it …Will you ? maybe yes ,maybe no ,maybe so so…
Public will know when Game release than they will judge by theirselft .
As per my posts …you know if i like it or not …but i cant say …NDA

An example of how quotes can be used for marketing (for a movie):

“Watching this movie feels like a horrible grind. It is absolutely terrible on all points, some of the worst **** I have ever seen. The director did not get anywhere near to making a fun and entertaining movie!”

Becomes to: “a fun and entertaining movie!”

Just an example of how little you can trust quotes that sell product. This example is actual real (although the language was danish) from the Scoobidoo movie.

(Ruben0s) #12

And I think the same about the game as you rookie

(rookie1) #13

yeah RuneForce i was editing while your were posting …Exact movie comments like that is untrustable

Sounds interesting tell me more, is Ken involved?

(Nail) #15

These are 3 people that have been involved with Splash Damage for a very long time, I personally take their opinions as being valid

(ColdBackHAND) #16

I agree.

10char

(Patriotqube) #17

Ofc their opinions are valid, otherwise they wouldnt have said it

but the validity of their opinions simply cant have anything todo with how long theyve been “involved” with SD

more important would be if we knew if they where compplayers with a rep outside this forum, or leaders of a clan/community, so they understand those angles, or if the prefers to play as pubbers without having to deal with stuff like adminning, scrims etc etc etc.

Ive seen all their nicks here on forum, i can see they have been registered here for a while, but im damned sure they havent played ET longer than me, as thats almost impossible. again, for those statements to mean anything more than just showing their opinions, then some background would be cool

anyway i fail to see the reason for this thread tbh ?.

(Nail) #18

I don’t particularly consider comp players opinions valid though

(SockDog) #19

In my case it’s a concise, emotive, reflection of DB against my entire history of gaming background. I honestly wouldn’t expect anyone to take anything more from the quotes than, “Hey, these guys seem to like the game. They also seem to hold values of older games and W:ET in high regard”.

I’d also say that knocking around on these forums for quite some time has allowed me to express my opinions on game design quite a bit. I don’t think you’d find a better resume than that if you want to qualify what’s going on in my head.
