Help with script?

(Darkix) #1

Hey guys!

I’ve been making maps on and off for the past couple years. I enjoy it, and it’s really my thing. But everytime I get a good map decently started, I run into having to write a script for things. I learned everything I know from 2bit’s tutorials, which sadly enough end at the scripting. Anyways, does anyone know where I can learn about the scripting aspect? Script movers, objectives, needed items. All of that I want to learn so I can finally get a map made and released.

Thanks!

I think the original map scripts is a good way to learn

Of course they are, which is why I’ve spent days reading them. But it’s still a pain in the ass to try and match everything up for decompiled maps > scripts. I was hoping there was like a “scripting bible”.

maybe just post the stuff of scripting you need to know.
you get helped pretty fast here anyway

(Nail) #5

no need to decompile, source is available

Maybe the SplashDamage Wiki will help you?
http://wiki.splashdamage.com/index.php/Wolfenstein:_Enemy_Territory

There are some scripting explanations in it.

EDIT:
This could possibly be the scriptingbible as you described:

I need to decompile to actually view the map in GTK so I can see what part of the script goes to what part of the map, yes?

(Darkix) #14

Didn’t think about checking cache’s or webarchives of it. Thanks!

BTW Indy, didn’t I beta test V1 of Streets Of Italy with you? That was a good map.

(IndyJones) #15

ooops, silly me, has already been posted earlier

Yep, that link will help me greatly. Going to start reading now. Btw, I see there’s a GTKRadiant 1.6 out? I remember when 1.5 came out, everyone said to stay with 1.4. I’m a 1.4 oldskooler, should I continue using it or try the new 1.6?
