As you can see now, I have this gap–the only way to cover it as I know now is to drag the floor–but then it wil be sticking out the other side! isn’t there a way to make a solid endcap to cover it, or anything else?

I’m not at all clear what the screenshot is showing. An in editor shot with the problem parts select might help, or at least drawing some indication of the problem area on that screenshot.
Anyway, I’ll try to guess some answers.
You can cap curves. Cap selection in the curve menu, or start with a simple patch mesh and vertex edit it. There is also the ‘thicken’ command.
You might also be getting sparklies. I’m sure one of the tutorials in the stickies covers those. This site has some patch tutorials;

err, how can you not tell? No offense. it’s just some ground with a curved end cap to be the “wall,” and I don’t know how to fill the space without making it look like crap.
