help/suggestions - system requirements

Don’t know much about PC hardware…

My specs

Intel Core 2 duo
cpu 2.20 ghz
ram 4 (3 usable)
g.card nvidia GT220M 1 gb

Can I run brink on this? Graphics aren’t a big concern for me, I only care about smooth gameplay (120+ fps). I play every game on 800x600 to 1024x768 and low graphics.

If I cant I’ll prolly try building a pc. So I need some help on picking

graphics card
motherboard
processor

my budget is around $800

thanks a lot

As you can see it clearly states:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent

Judging by etqw and its min requirements i’d say you definitely need a better cpu. When i swapped my old p4 3.2ghz for c2d e8500 i noticed a huge difference even before i changed the gfx card.
I fear even my cpu will be too weak at 3.8ghz, will prob try 4.4ghz with new cooler.

i7 2600k -$330
asus p6p67 mobo -$170
geforce 560 - less than 300 (570 is around $330-370)

there`s $800

This is a good bundle: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.619726

If you aren’t confident in assembling your own, then this is a good pre-built rig for the price: http://www.v3gamingpc.com/the599special

If you want to spend a bit more, you can upgrade the video card from a 550 to a 460, cpu from a i3 to a i5, and motherboard from a H61 to a H67.

I don’t really understand why people want 120 fps. Yeah, that used to be where I would cap it in ET (or 90), but overall 60-120 isn’t a big difference imho. You could easily play 60 fps.

It’s even less of an issue in Brink and other modern games that aren’t that fast-paced.

I certanly wouldn’t sacrifice resolutio for it (native is a must), visual detail - sure why not.

It would be awesome if anyone would find a example with even higher FPS versions shown: http://www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html

Anyway, with 800$ you can easily get a system that runs how you want, probably. Mine:
Q9550, Asus P5Q Pro, 4870 1GB, Corsair TX750W.
Runs most new games maxed out @ 1920 x 1200 and is fairly cheap nowadays.

hows this : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227290

or

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.591939&cm_sp=DailyDeal--591939--Combo

@Mustkunstn1k 120 fps on a crt @120 hz feels smoother than 60 fps @ 60 hz…

yea I understand it’ll be slower paced compared to quake but I can def tell the diff between 60 and 120 in a game like cs

This is my go to website for picking hardware and he updates his site contantly…

http://www.hardware-revolution.com/mainstream-gaming-pc-april-2011/

this is a link to his $700-$1400 builds but if you look around his site, he has configurations for others.
