Help! Something clips where it should not

(pazur) #1

I think I have a problem :eek2: …

Something is clipping in my map at a place where I did NOT put any clip brushes!

First I thought thats a lost triangle of one model with q3map_clipModel, but it`s NOT.

Now I guess it might have something to do with:

block size = { 2048 2048 2048 }
BOGUS FloatPlane: bad normal
BOGUS FloatPlane: bad normal
Entity 14, Brush 0: Entity leaked
506 leafs filled
writing C:\Games\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\maps rc40.prt
WARNING: Flipped triangle: ( 512 -820 1292) ( 376 -820 1264) ( 424
-820 1274)

Either its the FloatPlane or the flipped triangle... I ran bobtoolz brush cleanup. It didnt help

Ok. I think I found the bad brush. Its a broken patch… but I can’t select it. Anybody has an idea how to remove it?

(SCDS_reyalP) #3

either find it in the .map file with a text editor, or try the various brush based selection commands (inside, touching etc) Hiding or filtering the surrounding brushwork might help things.

If you text edit the .map, I suggest making a backup first :moo:

I managed to remove that patch, but the problem with the clip still exists :eek2:

did the error messages change ?

You should try to isolate the problem area as much as you can, with small test maps untill you find the bad brushes.
For example select a small region around the problem area, inverse select, delete, save with different name, recompile and test.(just in case make a backup first though)
If the problem is still there then repeat with an even smaller area.
When you have an area small enough that you can make sense out of in a text editor, open the .map in a text editor and look for bad brushes or brushes that should not be there.
Sometimes bad brushes will have weird coordinates or 2 or more vertices with the same coordinates.
Hopefully this will narrow it down for you and you’ll identify the problem.

I think I will go this try and error method… maybe I copy part by part to a clean new .map file. Thats what I did with a similar problem with my Natterbase map.

edit: the floatplane error msg is gone

I found the brush! It was one of the patches  The clipping prob is gone!!!
