Help me gather options to get rid of fps dips

(esotericMeme) #1

Hello everyone,

as you might have guessed, my framerate is still not buttersmooth after the MOFO update. Thats because my system is from 2010 but it covers the system requirements. (Please don’t tell me to get a new one  )

So far I think density of effects and the new introduced foliage cause my fps to dip into the low 40s at times while it would be otherwise at 70-ish. In “Singleplayer” (via the console command “switchlevel obj_whitechapel” f.ex) I get 60 - 100 fps for comparison.

After some googling I found some tweaks but I don’t know if they are safe to use or considered as cheats or hacks. I’ll try to list them here and I would appreciate feedback on efficiency and possible downsides. And of course further additions are welcome. Everyone should benefit from this not just me.

autoexec.cfg entries
BloomSize 0
FogDensity 0
ColorGrading 2
PostProcessAAType 0
texturepoolsize 1

startparameters
-useallavailablecores
-cpuCount=# (#=number of available cores)
-ReadTexturePoolFromIni

changing
[TextureStreaming]
PoolSize=160
bUseTextureStreaming=true
MemoryMargin=128
in your shooterengine.ini to something different

  • Are there specific tweaks to reduce effects on screen and remove the grass f.ex?
  • I’d like to do away with the choppiness.
  • Which entries should i never change? (Or which suggestions shall i never follow)

Sorry for my bad English
Any input is appreciated

Thanks for your time
Have a good one
cheers

6 years are a lot of time spent by your PC
mine is also 6 years old bootcamped IMac.

maybe its time to change PC?

Here is some to read http://www.crossfire.nu/articles/view/id/990/page/1
(some stuff is outdated and idk if thats all correct still)

And dont miss the quote under “Stutter Fix”

I came here to ask about this specifically. There’s way too many grass and environmental textures that weren’t there before, they serve no purpose to the gameplay, they have no hitbox and simply obstruct vision and distract. Hopefully there’s a way to turn them off?

It also seems like there’s more blood splatter coming out of the mercs’ models when they’re being shot at, just another useless and annoying effect that I can’t get rid of.

It has nothing to do with how good your PC is, there’s a lot of unnecessary things that are not a good match with competitive gameplay. Eye candy would only be useful if we had demo support but we don’t.

It’d be great if a developer can post details about the changes in the config/console commands or at least the important ones. Or maybe someone can post a finished version of an updated potato config.

Thanks.

For me it looks like something in the old configs or incorrect launch options might be one reason for framedrops.

Y-day I fiddled with it a bit by slamming in about 2months old config and put incorrect thread and cpucore count into my launch options. With default MoFo options and config on minimal settings, I get buttersmooth 65 locked fps with dips to max 60. Without lock I can get 80-90 fps. However, having old config and obsolete launch options I went down to 35fps and stuttering a lot.

I still run some age old Phenom II CPU from which I’m not entirely sure if I am even using all 4 cores, it’s faulty. Radeon 5700 GPU. Potato would be pretty much an upgrade :smirk:

Edited with some fresh information from Smooth! Make sure to check this one out from your configs fellas:

Thanks, that helped a bit but occasional stuttering is still noticeable.
That might be due to some changes to the anti-cheat system and not the game itself, which was discussed further down in bontsa’s provided link, sadly.

Yep, I’ve heard of this lately too. If it turns out to be NGS (Black Cipher) that’s causing issues, it’s most likely not SD’s forte but Nexon’s fix to deal with rather. Unless SD can do something on their code’s side to prevent NGS’s (still hypothetical, investigated) faulty influence.

this is interesting, ill give it a try (bes: throttle cpu use)

(bontsa) #11

I’d also advice avoiding using such. Its weekend, neither Nexon or SD are going to investigate the matter now but I’m certain next week they get at it, since Reddit thread already confirms Smooth, one of SD’s main designers associated with DB (for the heck if I remember the right title of his :'D) is aware of this.

(averagerussian) #12

I’m so curious if throttling the cpu usage of anticheat would help. I’m very tempted to use that program since my game is currently unplayable. I guess the best is to give it a try on an alt account though.

(TitaniumRapture) #13

I am 99% sure because even my mouse was lagging in windows when anticheat was spiking.

(doxjq) #14

Can confirm it helps, but doesn’t completely cure it.

At least for me. The spikes are way less frequent, but still happen occasionally.

Changed DB to high priority, changed BlackCipher to low.

(K1X455) #15

On 5 November, I saw a thread where NGS was reported causing issues and I promptly mentioned it in this in my thread. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that neither SD nor Nexon are looking into it so now it crops up. The week is fresh again and I got time to look, investigate and take action on my end. I think it’s high time I make the TOC favor me (and idc for any apologies for inconvenience I get).

i limit blackcipher.aes by 50% works like a charm for me no spikes at all. my cpu is i7 4790k. try to limit it by 90%, why not

Tried to end it in processes and it works!

And no BAN so far.

It was suggested early on after the post, but NO. I want it to run as part of the game. How it runs? well it’s going to be part of my TOC

Well i have potato pc so…

But no terrible FPS drops like before. All in all i think i have better experience than before. I have better graphic quality + better fps(was using some fps improving config which made my game ugly and wasnt that much helpfull not sure if it wasnt caused by nexon anticheat even before).

Actually that patch made my game enjoyable (if i end the anticheat of course)
