help! light problems

(BowlOfCereal) #1

my lights are to bright when my map loads out, is there anyway to dim them? :? :?

(walk_on_sky) #2

of course there is:

select your light entity, press ‘n’ and change the value of the ‘light’-key to a lower value…

(BowlOfCereal) #3

doesnt that just reduce the raidius?

(Boosted) #4

set _minlight to 10 and see how it is.
play around with it until ur happy

(BowlOfCereal) #5

minlight doesnt work >_>

Reduce the “light” key of you light or reduce the “_color” key. You shall probably see that if you increase the “light” key, the radius will increase too. But don’t worry. The key “fade” can you use to lower the speed of fading the light. So if you lower the “fade” key, your radius will be bigger and the light will be fade smoother.

Good luck!

sooo, um, fade, yeah, i…dont get it… what would be good settings for a small room, no sky…

(mazdaplz) #8

the light entity is good for torches and things like that

but when lighting a simple room normaly i would go for the light textures.
they’re much simpler to use too, just make a brush and paint it with one of the textures in the ‘lights’ folder

how big you make the brush is how bright the light will shine

If the room is somewhere in a house in broad daylight, then it’s probably the most natural not to use any indoor lighting at all, but simply stick with ambient or minlight keys in the worldspawn (look at goldrush for example).
