I dont know how to get to spawn in my map i get as far as spectate but when i try to go to limbo menu it doesnt respond at all
i have tried the tutorials im not sure where im going wrong
my guess is it might be to do with the model i have made:(

you mean that the game freezes when you go to limbo, yeah known issue over here 
It happens with 2.55, you forgot to set the mapcoords.
You can do it manually or go to Plugins->Sunplug->ET-Map coordinator in gtk radiant and this fixes it for you
