Heavy Weapons Guy

(artfulSedan) #1

‘Heavy’

‘I don’t need to run, my bullets are fast enough’

Gender: Male

Role: Surpression, defense

Primary Weapons:
-HMGs (like a Browning M2 oh boy that would be awesome) (long reload)
-Full Automatic Shotguns
Secondary weapons:
-Heavy Revolver
-sawn off double barrel shotgun
Melee:
-Bat
-Axe

Gadget:
-Heavy shield: The heavy pull out a shield which shield him and others behind it from frontal bullets. The shield has only a small viewport, he can’t run while using it nor can he use his weapons (he can bash with the shield).

Pros:
-increased Health
-wields heavy guns capable of mowing down enemys
-has a shield to defend him self and his allies

Cons:
-very slow walking speed
-no walljump
-very slow repair, arm , disarm speed
-very low accuracy and high recoil to compensate for the high kill capability

Aside from the possible TF2 copyright notice and removal of walljump, I think this merc could work.
It would definitely be a team-dependent class, since the slow tool speed, and could shield someone that is defusing in Victoria, maybe.
Actually, that sounds a bit OP.
Maybe if he couldn’t change the angle of the shield, it took a good 1.5 seconds to deploy, and it scraped along the ground as he walked with it, and maybe if it had a healthbar of its own, tied to the “cooldown” of the skill, then that could be balanced.

uhm i’m sorry but ‘Heavy’ is not a word that can be copyrighted nor trademarked.

Well yeah the shield can be detroyed by explosives and normal gunfire but it takes longer.and he has decreased walking speed while holding it, and an extreme small FoV i think those are enough cons or nobody would use him ._.

(TheNinth) #4

But you know what I mean, yeah? “HEAVY WEAPONS GUY” as the title, too. hehe

Otherwise it sounds like a good character :D

(artfulSedan) #5

you don’t have to make him big bald and russian. make him ‘rock’ like :3

I may do a concept drawing for him too but i kinda like the idea of the riot merc more because it’s not that generic so ill start with that one o-o

(cosmopolitanSponge) #6

Wait don’t we already have Rhino? It’s still in closed beta so…

(Reddeadcap) #7

Yeeah but many people seem to either not remember there are class archtypes and never even look into much besides the current 7… I swear most people dont even see the video you get when installing thats also in Dirty Bomb’s Youtube Channel or the games optional tutorial… that explains why many Vasili’s dont even notice they’ve got a heart beat sensor or how reviving works.

(artfulSedan) #8

Does Rhino (yeah i watched the trailer i assume you talk about the big guy in the EOD suit with the minigun) have a shield?
I only came in game during the 2. stresstest and since they don’t put in the older mercs (for whatever reason) i don’t know much about those.

(TheNinth) #9

After looking around and asking people it looks like there will already be a merc like this, codename Turtle.

(artfulSedan) #10

k

Turtle is a very different beast (or at least he was in the concept we saw): first of all he’s a mid-size engi (expect a SMG as primary) and his shield is a fixed barrier he can deploy on the ground, kind of a temporary wall.

I would love to have more sappers in the game owo

(CCP115) #13

I personally think an espionage class with sappers or EMP blockers would be a terrible idea at this point in the game, and at any point really. Allow me to explain (rant incoming)

So in TF2, there are 9 classes, one of which builds Vending Machines, and the other one shanks people in da bum. The average size of a team on a pub is ~10, which means every team is statistically speaking going to have an engineer (not all teams have engineers, not enough people who play TF2 have common sense.) That means the spy will theoretically always have something to sap with his sapper.

Now lets take a look at dirty bomb. Right now, 8 mercs (if I’m not mistaken.) Only one can build a building, and he can only build one, a sentry. The sentry already has really low health, and can be broken in one strong knife (alt-fire). If an espionage class were to be added right now, his sappers would be effective against one building. Not very good. Not only that, but only three mercs can be chosen by one person at any time, and teams don’t go above 8 aside. The chance of one team having Bushwacker, and the other having espionage class are pretty high, but the usefulness of the espionage classes’ sapper would still be really low. Unless more mercs are added to the game with buildings, then a sapper would still be useless.
BUT THEN, if more mercs are added, the statistical chance of an espionage class being on one team, and the other team having a decent number of engineers is quite low, as more mercs are added, and the three merc pool doesn’t increase.

So yea, no sappers for Dirty Bomb I’m afraid, we’ll just have to stick with Skyhammer spam. If you find any weak points in my argument, feel free to argue back.

@extravagentBypass I’m pretty sure he was talking about “combat sappers” aka engis, not electro-sappers à la TF2. Proxy refers to herself as a “combat sapper with a smile” in one of here voiceover lines.

(CCP115) #15

I have never heard of that term ever.

(artfulSedan) #16

xD The Spy is not a sapper he has just a device he calls a sapper (because it sapps things).

The term sapper is an official name for the commonwealth pioneers or combat engíneers.
The name orignates from the french term ‘saper’ which means to dig.
Sappers in both worldwars had manly the role of digging trenches, laying down barbed wire or blowing up bridges (repairing wasn’t really an option becasue you can’t really repair something with just a wrench, but they used to construct stuff like tank barricades etc.)

I actually just posted almost same idea lol.

(artfulSedan) #18

Coincidence or ALIENS ?

(Reddeadcap) #19

@extravagentBypass its a rather hardly used term but it generally refers to a combat engineer who focuses on demolition rather than construction, one of Proxy’s lines when examined is even “Combat sapper, with a smile.”

(goodField) #20

-Looks at Rhino- I think they just released the closest thing you’ll get.
