What would you like to have instead?
HeadShot sound.
Nothing. There is no requirement for assistance, hand-eye co-ordination is sufficient.
I remember CoD:MW (aka CoD4) having headshot sounds. It made no sense to me back then and still doesn’t… Not a real fan of artificial effects.
If DB does end up having headshot sounds I hope they are subtle or can be turned off.
Neither particularly, I prefer RTCW.
Still superior in almost every way to virtually every other fps game - and, unsurprisingly, there are no hit sounds. Coincidence…?
and yet only played by maybe 2 hundred people … coincidence ?
some people prefer different things, off/on fixes it
On/Off fixes it for anyone (like me), who finds it an unecessary distraction; yes.
However, in my opinion it’s an example of the dumbing down of the overall required level of skill.
In no way is it as bad as aim assist or similarly obnoxious methods regularly incorporated elsewhere, but it is a lessening of the skill required.
Maybe I’m too much of a purist? - certainly that correlation would explain the ‘coincidence’ between higher player numbers and lesser skill requirements. Although ET, (with hit sounds and similarly out of date), arguably has less active players than RTCW.
If the comparison is between RTCW and newer games, then this ‘coincidence factor’ possesses far more variables than just hit sounds.
I think you’ll find W:ET has a considerably larger player base at the moment, and I remember several petitions to add banimod hitsounds to OSP. Don’t like em, don’t use em, the comp players demand them

If there are 200 people playing Dirty Bomb when it is 10+ years old, I will be most impressed.
If there are 200 people playing ET Quake Wars when it is 10+ years old, I will be most impressed.
[strike]If there are 200 people playing Brink when it is 10+ years old, I will be most impressed.[/strike]
Last one, is obviously a joke since there aren’t even 20 people still playing Brink.
and yet W:ET still has thousands playing, what’s your point, check the Steam Forums, QW and Brink still have a following
I don’t see on/off as an ultimate fix, maybe for a game like RtCW or ET but with bullet penetration and stuff like flash/concussion grenades (which DB presumably has) hit sounds/markers can be an advantage in certain situations.
I’m assuming you mean being able to shoot people through walls?
After watching some CS:GO videos recently it reminded me that some games do this, it was one of the things that most annoyed me about CoD, really hope no such feature makes it into DB.
I don’t know why people are arguing FOR having no hitsounds :\ If you don’t like them simply turn them off. (if it is a feature in DB ofc) We know that many, if not most, RTCW players want a remake, but that is never going to happen. If that sort of game was released around the time when COD blew up it wouldn’t of been big and many of you wouldn’t of even given it your time of day!
We are now in 2013 and games have changed dramatically. For the good? Not for me or many of you. But that is not going to change any time soon with games like LOL and other nerdy elf/wizard games dominating the PC gaming scene right now. Who knows, maybe it’s time for us to just move on?

Yea, that’s what I meant.
It seems pretty common in modern games and I would be surprised if DB doesn’t have it.
Not sure if I want to be able to shot at somebody I can’t see (behind a thin metal wall for example), the game would do fine without it but on the other hand it probably wouldn’t have a really big impact, because with medics a few HP less aren’t that big of a deal (unlike in CS:GO).
But there are also situations where I can see part of an enemy when not being able to shot him threw an object sucks, for example if he is behind a wooden fence and I can only see his feet.
With improved graphics there is also much more stuff lying around which shouldn’t completely stop bullets, lets say a water melon on the table of some market.
PS: I hated the bullet proof glass in Brink.
People explained their reasoning for that, in my case the possible advantage of “finding” enemies you can’t see.
I’d recommend the headshot sound from Blacklight: Retribution. Something similar would be great. Here’s a video:

Had a listen and that is truely horrible.
We’re talking about something like this:

Fair point and while I like a great deal about these older games, I would agree that aspects such as these are an improvement in many respects.
However, many developers appear to have trouble with consistency and it is this factor which at least for me, causes considerable frustration.
For example, we are able to shoot through walls A & B, yet when we reach walls C & D apparently made of the same material, no rounds would seem to penetrate them.
A lack of consistency when playing fps games can be frustrating and appears to trouble many of the new-wave of ‘realistic’ shooters.
This same inconsistency often also applies to obstacles and debris. Much of which should be easy to climb or mantle, but which for some unspecified reason acts instead as a defined block.
Who knows why…?
Why not get rid of the crosshair too? Takes skill to memorize the center of your screen and we can make people play with webcams to make sure they don’t put a tape dot up.
