Headquarters/Domination Modes?

Any plans to add these types of game modes to Dirty Bomb? They were extremely fun in the cod series with HQ and BF3/4 with the Domination.

Planting the bomb with one life per round - Execution - is comming next update!

Dirty Bomb is making a very clear effort to steer clear of the generic and uninteresting “modern” FPS’s. It’s far more of a throw back to the old arena shooters, and thus any other game modes that will be added are not going to be objective-based (such as the upcoming Execution game mode, or possibly CTF or Domination, maybe something else).

Thats crazy if you think they are generic and uninteresting. Stopwatch and Objective can be fun for a few rounds but after about 3-4 matches doing the same linear object gets pretty boring, and fast. HQ and Domination had objectives that changed depending on who capped what and when. To each their own when it comes fun I suppose.

Good thing you mentioned throwback fps shooters. Any chance of Clan Arena type of game mode, or a version of Rocket Arena 3(quake 3)? Played that for years and it was a blast.

This in a nutshell, although i feel this game takes certain yet limited "inspiration* from games like cod, halo, bf, cs, tf2, quake, ut etc i think it should remain clear of the generic gamemodes/gameplay in of itself, DB is quite unique, but it could actually benefit from some diversity, as long as we can get the player base that is. Just my opinion though.

Domination might be generic, but it is damn fun! And UT had it way before CoD, so it is a classic game mode from the days of old. Besides, they don’t need to make domination specific maps, just use the execution maps and throw in some capture points. That would at least allow me to play some on those maps, cause execution is not something I’m going to be spending a lot of time in. It’s basically a copy/paste of CS, so I don’t see why domination would be any different.

Yea I love the Domination mode and wish DB implemented it. Have 5 Capture points with a well made map and its an absolute blast. For examped one of the best maps that I have ever played on for this mode was Donya Fortress in BF3. There was virtually no bottlenecks and things moved along good with capture points constantly changing hands.

I guess I just find the same linear object thing over and over to me gets boring after 5 matches. Too used to the constant change from Domination to where nothing is linear that involves an objective.

Personally I’d just like to see Execution mode and a few maps because I really need some variety to this game. I’ve played the same 5 maps a million times already. Barely any difference between objective and stopwatch either, and they use the same maps.

domination would work great in DB, and its objective based too (capture objectives! : P )

I agree DB should stay away from TDM type of game modes, but domination is really fun to play. Also imho all the maps with few changes can easily make for a balanced domination game. So i hope they’ll add it eventually.

I can see the potential of having Domination in DB, having played a version of it in TF2 and also the CP-gamemode in general. In fact, thinking about it, I would really love the next gamemode to be something like Domination.
Perhaps you could reintroduce hacking in DB through that, so there are like 3 points for example and to capture a point one has to “hack” the objective terminal which could be a satellite dish or anything. Say it is to “upload intel” to your resp. faction be it CDA or Jackals. So the point has to be held until your teams counter reaches 100%. More points you own, faster it goes.

Alt. you can have it that whoever controls all areas win.

DB has already been compared to games such as tf2 and cs:go because they have some strong similarities. However if SD wants to do something innovative with this shooter I doubt they get far because as we all know gamers really don’t want innovation. “The Game Theorists” channel explains this very well. If DB wants to go anywhere it need to stick to the generic and foundation of first person shooters.

SD knows this, because I believe there is no coincidence that the containment war update is being released around the same time overwatch beta is going to be released. Unless they add familiar or iconic features of a fps to DB it’s going to be tossed aside and beat heavily.

Can I ask, what’s headquarters and domination?

I wish developers would stop trying to come up with “cool” names for their really generic gamemodes.

Honestly, deathmatch, objective, control points, payload, it’s not that hard.

Headquarters/Domination have control points (objectives) that the team can take over via sitting in an area for a duration to cap it or by activating something. Usually 4-5 control points and the team that controls the most objectives for the longest time wins (usually by a ticket limit).

Basically for each objective your team owns its granted a point, or ticket for the duration owned. So the team that owns the most control points and holds them for the longest time wins.

People are always moving around and since control points are always changing, so does the flow of the game. It’s just better than running in a straight linear pattern to the current objective style in DB. With DB it still has control points, it just changes hands so combat is more randomized instead of linear.

"With DB it still has control points, it just changes hands so combat is more randomized instead of linear. "

Meant “with Domination”

(SereneFlight) #16

What if objectives were control points (à la Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad)?

I really like this idea, makes domination more DB like by giving engineers faster capture speed on the objective.

@CCP115 Domination is not some cool name for a game mode, it’s been called Domination since it’s origin as far as I know, at least since the 90’s. I agree though, hate it when they make up stupid names for something standard.

@ZeuZ_LoD I do believe 3 capture points is more common, and it would fit DB better IMO. The more capture points you have the more spread out the battle is, that works with high player counts such as BF conquest. But when you decrease the player pool and map size it’s also common to decrease the amount of capture points to centralize the action a bit more, like BF domination. With how small the teams in DB are I think 3 is optimal, 5 is a bit much. Think about competitive 5vs5 on Domination with 5 capture points, 1 player per point, it’s a little thin if you ask me, not very interesting. It also becomes harder to spectate with more capture points, worse for casting.

(DMaster2) #18

Yeah 3 capture points is the most reasonable option.
