Have you already seen something who create a texture folder?

(pidprocess) #1

Hi everybody!
i have a question about textures: maybe i have the wrong method to create texture folder from a map. i explain.
To create a texture folder i copy/paste existing textures from pk3 files who i have used for the map to the new texture folder, so when a map count between 40 and 60 textures, it’s become very long and boring :bored: …
So, someone know a fast way to make texture folder?
please save my nerves :frowning:
thanks!

if u use textures from the basic maps (oasis, gold, radar,…) u dont have to put them into your pk3 file thats all i know  only if u make new ones u better put them in it or else buggy bug bug bug

Actually, using someone else’s files is mostly considered not nice or bad practice.
Anyhow, those from the pakxxx.pk3 do not have to be included. Those in the unzipped texture folders mostly neither, as those come from pak0.pk3.
All the others: make a folder, with a name refering to your name or map. Put them in there, and if they aren’t yours (most probably) list them in your readme from who your got them.

Maybe I’ll make a script to automate such a task once, but then it 'll probably be for Linux only.

yes i know , the textures taken from official map needn’t a new texture file because everybody own that textures, but i play wolf since long time and i have many new maps so i have use the textures from the new map like baserace or de_dusted for exemple so, now i must search different textures in different folders to make my texture folder( that long…) . If i not do that, the textures appears in black and orange colors(textures not found). i think i take a bad way to make them from begining, maybe because i not use the project system in GTK?
Thanks Bobb!

If i well understand your post kamikazee, there is no program or routine who make that automatly for now.
If you make a script to automatize that part, i am with you in 100%!!
thanks!

(Bobb) #6

just use the textures from pak0 and everything will be fine

(kamikazee) #7

Better add some of your own, as long they look good.
Making maps only with the default textures leads to “seen that texture/building before” comments. See “El Kef” for example, no offence, but parts look like goldrush since it uses it’s textures. :nag:

Of course, it’s not only textures that count, allso the way in which they are applied. Using standard textures plain wrong is not much better.

it his first map dude ! so is mine plz answer my topic noow !!! grrr  (about the teleports)

(kamikazee) #9

I just did!
I hope you like it.

so i have use the textures from the new map like baserace or de_dusted for exemple so

That’s not bad practice, its stealing. You need the permission of the person that made the texture.

(Bobb) #11

if you steal from a thieve ur not stealing ^^

There are seamless texture sets on the web that only require you giving credit to the creator of the textures in your README.txt file. This of course also follows the “free for use as long as what you make is free as well” rule.

Hi everybody! i have a hope to send a post to thanks people who try to help me, but…
i not ever find a fast way to create texture folder from my map :disgust:
pleaaaaase hlp me…

(Loffy) #14

http://www.spyjuice.com/ld.htm has some pk3s about textures/shaders that one can download and run around inside. They give an understanding of textures and shaders.
Also, I would check out http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/4newbies and the section called “Making Custom Textures”.

(pidprocess) #15

Thanks Loffy, but that tutorials are useless in my case.
Now my maps are already finish and i send you the last if you are ever intersted.
Thanks everybody for your help!!

(Yojo) #16

i try to not use any textures from anyone else, but i don’t know all the folders of pak0 by hard so i don’t know always or it is stealing or using pak0 things
anyway, i try, but i think i fail a little sometimes.

This is one reason it is a good idea to have a copy of ET just for mapping, without any custom stuff in it.
