Has something changed for high pingers?

Dude I feel you 50 ping felt like 100 a couple of days ago.

I played on a couple servers today, but I’m not sure which ones. I played Execution and Objective for a couple games. Anyways, I was getting a very strange lag. Like really unusual. The gunplay was just offv a lot of the time. My ping is around 30-60, so that’s not the problem.

What made me notice that there was DEFINITELY a lag going on and I wasn’t just sucking ass, is that the voices for the commands were off. I pressed V-2-1 and although the text appeared immediately, the voice was delayed by 1-2 seconds. This was really odd and it’s never happened before. Even weirder is that a couple of instances, Skyhammer’s voice from the commands wasn’t his voice. It sounded like Vassili or Redeye (both of which happened to be in my squad).

I have no idea what was going on and I know I’m not crazy.
Is it still happening, and if so, can you record some of it?
Wasn’t able to replicate it sadly and though I thought I was recording, I wasn’t unfortunately. :frowning:

I’ll try again tomorrow. I know that the one thing I did differently was click the spectate button to join the game instantly rather than waiting the 15 seconds as usual. This may or may not have something to do with it, but I suppose it’s important info nonetheless!

I could not play much since last patch, but in the small session I did I felt like the hitreg is quite off right now.
And no, @Sploosh, I also noticed that. That’s not the first time I see this, and it usually happens when the servers are about to crash when your ping is not involved in this.
Those issues are particularly noticeable during the first week-end after patch surprisingly.

Thank you, so I’m not going crazy? The hit reg seems to be just off in the weirdest ways. Like sometimes no shots will register at all when previously, the hit reg in this game was spot on (for me at least).

The last patch or two changed something somehow and not only did more bugs pop up (expected), but this weird lag is making the game really frustrating in the worst scenarios (like trying to defuse a bomb).

Have you ever ran a constant ping from a terminal to the IP of the server to see how much it goes up and down in latency? Or to check for packet loss?

I might go make a server IP list and keep that handy since getting the IP of the server is typically the part most people don’t know how to do.

That’s probably the way to go indeed, I’ll check next time I encounter this.

The weird delay issues are definitely server related though, as I noticed them from two different places, at different times, after different updates. That’s not new, and that’s not strictly db related as these are issues I also encountered in other UE3 based games.

On chivalry for example, we used to restart our server every 48 hours or so because after some time we started to see delays in voicing and even player actions and potential teleporting in the worst cases (anti-lag was far less tolerant there). And generally, if you put the server into stress at this time, it was going to crash very fast. Some sort of memory leak server side or issues to send packets after some time, I don’t know. But a restart was generally sufficient to put everything back in place. High tickrate servers were also more subjects to those issues by the way. I also saw this in tribes ascend with the same characteristics, so I tend to think that’s the same issue in the 3 games.

Here in dirty bomb, as servers get restarted pretty much at the same time for the update (and I suppose a unique provider with the same servers specs for every single region), they will globally decrease in quality more or less at the same rate. As they won’t crash at the same time, the issue will dilute over time after the last update. Which is why it’s very blatant 72hours after the last patch. But the issue remains.

Keep in mind, these are just observations from my player point of view. I don’t know anything about servers or even binaries. I just watch how they behave and I used to manage simple settings to improve the experience on my clan server.
