Has SD made an official public apology for this game yet?

(AKAMrSmiley) #21

If by apology you mean not wasting their time posting on threads like these, and instead work on their next title in the hopes that they hit the nail on the head and can attract a fanbase that lasts as long as their previous titles (preferably more than et:qw, but I’d settle for a hardcore fanbase that has at least 12 NA teams competing 4 seasons in), than I totally agree.

Apologize for making the game they envisioned and thought would be have great gameplay or maybe for trying to bring life back with patches and a DLC, even though for the majority of these updates mainly directed for PC users the PC gaming crowd had almost all left the game? They were trying to do something innovative in a failing market that for the most part is clinging onto things that are familiar… They didn’t succeed in attracting a large following for their game but I would like to think they put a lot of effort into this game (as well as putting a lot of effort into not responding to ignorant threads that tend to just bash them instead of produce anything constructive at all), it is definitely unique compared to most shooters and they are one of the few studios that try to put things out that are different from the norm. So I’ve accepted its failures, moved on and am hoping for the best for Splash Damage in the future, you should think about doing the same instead of beating a dead horse.

The game isnt worth the 10 dollar bin it currently sits in.

To the OP. I agree with the others here who say that if you bought it you approve of it. But, I can see why you might be pissed that what you got was very different from what you expected, advertisement does that. Honest advice from me: Torrent games.

Fact of the matter is that some games are over-hyped, either by manufacturer or fan-base. So, it can be easy to get suckered out of your cash. If demos are not offered I think it’s perfectly reasonable to torrent a game before you buy it. That’s just my opinion though.

I like how Brink plays and that’s why I bought it. I will admit that I expected some more content but I can live with the shortcomings, after all I did pick up a copy for $20. As long as SD works on fixing the game and improving the points where it was weak, I don’t think I have much to complain about.

(Codine) #24

Brink was down to $20 in like a week after it came out on various sites. I’m pretty mixed with Brink, it was my #1 game of 2011, now its not even on my top 10. It was by far the biggest disappointment I played in the last 5 years. Maybe I hyped the game up too much? But either way it was nothing like an ET which what I was expecting it to be like. Yeah sure you can argue than Brink was never supposed to be the new ET but Brink didn’t even carry any unique flavor to the game.

Splash Damage got too ambitious with this project and couldn’t back anything up and in the end we get a half baked product. To this day we still have no basic pc gamer support. I don’t regret buying this game because I did have fun with it, but it quickly became dull after seeing how shallow the game was and no support was given by the developers.

I don’t really want an apology from SD, I just want them to fix this game and IF they make a new game not neglect the pc community. I bet Bethesda pulled some strings during Brinks development to make it more console friendly, but in the end it got some nasty dirt on SD’s reputation. Who knows if they’ll be around long enough for another game.

Who knows if they’ll be around long enough for another game

Oh ye of little faith

The great thing about an independant game maker is the failings of a publisher don’t always affect their future ability, ET:QW and Lackovision being a prime example.

(tokamak) #26

Actofail isn’t really failing at the moment though, oh well, neither is Bethesda.

(Nail) #27

Both companies failed to support SD’s product, Lackovision didn’t want competition to their flagship shooter and "Meh"thesda just seems to be incompetent, never said either Company was failing, just that they failed to support SD, although I don’t see Bethesda becoming any better

(Codine) #28

I think that SD just got bogged down by doing a multiplatform launch and then Beth cut them off from working on anything special for the pc version. Atleast Skyrim will have mod tools. Beth treat their own people good I guess but **** over everybody else.

(signofzeta) #29

They totally apologized. The game is around $30 now, rather than $60.

Now compare stink to failenstein. That game was $70 and dropped to $60 and is still $60 to this day. Sad really.

I only bought 3 copies of failenstein because of blind faith and, although it did squeeze a bit of enjoyment out of me, especially the single player, which I sort of didn’t complete, and I did get some enjoyment out of the multiplayer, it wasn’t as enough as when I used to play RTCW, ET, and ETQW.

If you want something done right, go do it yourself. Working with id software, like they did in the past isn’t a bad choice I suppose. Can’t trust any publisher these days.

(.Chris.) #30

Where do all you people buy your games from? $60 $70 for a new PC game? Shop around, jesus…

I found Wolfenstein new for the following prices:

Xbox: £13.78
PS3: £12.85
PC: £7.85

Brink prices whilst am here:

Xbox: £9.99
PS3: £9.99
PC: £8.51

ET:QW

Xbox: £9.61
PS3: £12.49
PC: £5.54

The developers don’t set the prices either, it’s the retailers and/or publishers.

I got Brink special edition for £23 on release (pre-order) and recently ordered the new batman for £21 (digital copy).

(Breo) #31

Because they preodered a “special edition”?

(Codine) #32

Yeah, I preordered it from gamestop just so SD could release all the preorder bonuses as dlc for $5…

.

Fail !

(wolfnemesis75) #34

It all depends on how an individual relates to Brink and what they choose to get out of it. There-in lies its value. Right now, the experience was worth it from my seat. Fun times. Brink!

I rarely buy video games anymore. The PC versions are mostly console ports, and the console versions cost an arm and a leg. I will stick with one game franchise, and that’s You Don’t Know Jack. Their games cost $30 from the start. Brink has dropped in price from $60 to $30 in all stores in my city. I mean every single store in the entire city. It really means something when a game that has as much potential as Brink, has its price dropped to as much as the price of a trivia game with minimal graphics.

The only games I buy now are the ones I kinda want, and at the same time, the ones my brother really wants. I used to buy a lot of id software games, starting with id tech 4 generation, and boxed copies might I add. I own Doom 3 and resurrection of evil on PC and xbox, Quake 4 on PC and 360, ETQW on PC, 360 and PS3, Wolfenstein on PC, 360, and PS3. I didn’t really want to buy brink, just because it didn’t have an id logo on it, and because of the way games are nowadays, I never had the same excitement I had when I bought the older id titles, so with rage, I was like meh. I only bought it, because my brother wanted to play it, so I said, “what the heck”. Compared to before, rather than buy Rage for all 3 platforms, I only bought for the PS3 only, and I have no plans to get the PC and 360 versions.

It is sort of like buying a pack of trading cards, that say, “60-card deck”, and it contains a list of cards that are supposed to be in the deck, but when you open it, you count 50 cards, and that rare isn’t even there, and is replaced by a crappy common. And this imaginary deck isn’t tampered with either. It is all the manufacturer’s fault.

Chris, are you sure Wolfenstein costed $20 on November of 2009 in most retail stores? Because on August of 2011, Brink costed $30 in all retail stores.

(DarkangelUK) #36

I’m guessing Chris is talking about online, over here games are almost always cheaper online than from a retail store. From what I can see, Brink is averaging $17 on all platforms if purchased online in the states.

(Fetter) #37

I felt like I got my money’s worth with BRINK for sure, and I’ll definitely be playing it more if/when further patches/DLCs/free weekends come out. I’m not as much disappointed with the game as I am with the community’s reaction to it-- BRINK is the new Shadowrun.

(TheG4mer) #38

Nah, they haven’t and won’t make a public apology for Brink. Instead of they will release lies and promises for their next game to get it sold.

(Jimmy James) #39

Judging by the number of replies to this thread I would tend to disagree.

Hey! What about me? Shakes fist at the uppity whippersnapper.

Granted I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from Brink in order to play through Deus Ex: Human Revolution a second time to see if I can get the non-lethal achievement but once that’s done I’ll have plenty of time to play Brink while I wait for Saints Row: The Third to come out.

Do NOT take this advice. I used to Torrent out-of-print books until I got some really nasty malware.

-JJ

(tokamak) #40

That does sound like the behaviour of the typical Brink player.
