Has SD actually acknowledged the AMD problem?

Everything i’m seeing from splash damage seems to say “keep your drivers up to date” which is ridiculous. I’ve tested the game on 4 different computers, this problem has affected every computer i’ve seen running an AMD videocard. Just for some reference i’m going to post some specs on the comps i’ve tested and some results, the framerates i’m listing are from my observation running the objectives training

Comp 1 - Intel Q6600@3.2ghz, 6GB RAM, Nvidia GTX275 - 85+ FPS at all times, averaging about 110-120fps

Comp 2 - Intel Core I7-860@stock, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6850 - FPS between 20-60 typically, averaging about 30fps

Comp 3 - Intel Q9550@3.83ghz, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 4870x2 - FPS between 10-40 typically, averaging about 20fps, looks like crossfire is disabled and i have the gridding problem

Comp 4 - Intel Core I7-860@stock, 4GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6950 - FPS between 20-70 typically, averaging about 35fps

I think the people on the forums saying that they are getting good FPS on an AMD setup are used to running their stuff at 30fps. Compared to the Nvidia card the performance on all those AMD setups is terrible, especially considering that all 3 of those AMD cards i listed are more powerful than the GTX275

I think Splash Damage should just come out and admit that they shipped a bugged game that does not function correctly on AMD hardware and give people some sort of estimate on when they’ll be releasing the fix. Stop telling people to just update to the latest drivers, it just comes off as silly. All that said i really do like the game and hope to see it running correctly soon.

Thanks for the link, i had not seen that yet. Unfortunately that post pretty much cements my point and it comes directly from the games lead developer. From that link -

“In other PC news, we’ve also been working closely with the guys over at Bethesda Softworks to identify and solve any hardware compatibility issues that people have been reporting. For the AMD graphics card owners out there, make sure you’ve installed the latest AMD video drivers as that will solve a fair few of the visual and performance issues out there. Similarly, if you have an NVIDIA card and are experiencing issues with the game, make sure you’ve got the latest NVIDIA video drivers installed.”

Sorry but that is a BS copout on the situation. He did not admit to any AMD specific issue and directed people to update their drivers. This game should not be running any worse on AMD hardware than on Nvidia hardware of equivalent speed. I’m actually more disappointed now after having read that.

i agree with you. i wish that they had actually tested this game on many different comp specs before release so this doesn’t happen

(slengteng) #5

They are probably being careful about what they say for legal reasons until they are absolutely certain what the problem and fix is. I do agree that it is unfortunate that they aren’t saying more. I’ve actually entertained the thought of buying an Nvidia card just so that I can play this game with great performance, which is absurd considering every other game runs like a dream on my system. A statement saying that a fix for AMD/ATI is coming either from Splash Damage, AMD, or both would ease my mind and give me patience.

They dont really seem to be owning up to the fact that it is virtually unplayable on a huge # of ATI cards

I really dont get how this problem evades them through standard testing.

Truth is with the way ATI tried to rush out 11.5a they knew this was a serious problem well ahead of time

I highly higghhhlllyyyy doubt they didn’t test this game on multiple systems. Problems arise at unexpected times, you guys act like this never happens to any other game or company. It does, a lot. That is more acknowledgement than many others admit to. They said to update the drivers, install the hot fix. The game has been out for less than 32 hours (I think? lol). I mean look at every Fallout since Fallout 3… some people still can’t play it. Same with Bulletstorm, Cryostasis and many others. Crysis 1 was terribly optimized and had plenty of problems. It had one setting that controlled the most graphically intense options all in one. Crysis 2 doesn’t even give you options to change (at least from the demo, don’t own it) they have 3 settings that visual and performance wise I didn’t see a difference. I don’t understand why this game is getting it so bad. Perhaps because people don’t know Splash Damage as well.

(slengteng) #8

Not sure where you are getting that from. That other games have had launch problems as well doesn’t make this situation any less frustrating, and the point of the thread is that it would help if the AMD issue was more specifically acknowledged.

6950, i7 950, 8gb ddr3

BAD FPS

Anywhere from 20-60+ Oddly enough vysnc tries to cap me at 30 fps… although my monitor has a refresh rate of 60.

(Cypher05) #10

Because I’ve never seen people complain this much calling it a terrible game and dissing the devs this badly (not this thread, but in general). I’ve been to those forums for the other games, and it took a lot longer than 6 hours in to get the kind of response this game is getting.

When the AMD issue is figured out they will update not only the game but all the players. I’m sure they know of this problem therefore this isn’t exactly helping them fix it by retelling the same tale.

(Amon Amarth) #11

I don’t think the unstable framerate is just AMD.

I’m running SLI + Surround with an AMD CPU, and the game is somewhat unplayable. I’m getting about 40 FPS, but there is some really bad stuttering problems. I don’t know if it’s the SLI or the surround. Maybe the game wasn’t optimized for resolutions like 5760x1200?

As you said the first part has no relation to this thread so yeah.

As for the second part, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Yeah, I was just generalizing which I shouldn’t have, but I still believe that what was posted on the blog is admitting there is a problem. It is still more than most would admit to.

Not always, I’m sure it is at the top of their priority list, and no amount of complaining can place it higher than it already is. But who knows, I’m known to be wrong, a lot. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m actually a huge fan of ETQW and SD, i had high hopes for this game especially with Bethesda backing them up. I always felt that ETQW ended up a bit undersupported and the general vibe was that Activision was to blame for that. When SD got bought out i was excited because it seemed to me that they would finally get the support they needed to really shine. In any case back on topic.

Technically the game has huge issues on AMD videocards. This is really upsetting considering that they did not have a beta, where a problem like this would no doubt have been discovered. They released a week early because they were “done”, it certainly doesn’t feel that way to me. Crossfire doesn’t work at all, again something a beta would have helped with. Another difference between Nvidia and AMD that i have noticed is that the steam overlay is slow and choppy on all my AMD systems, on the Nvidia it runs smooth as butter. In fact the whole game runs smooth as butter on the Nvidia, hopefully SD fixes the issues soon.
