Has comp finally died out?

The amount of games we found in this time was close to non, SD really needs to give people an incentive to play comp next to more credits and a trinket once every ~6 months (that was the time of a ranked season right?) that looks so dull that you’ll barely notice it.

I believe that if SD wants to stimulate ranked they really need to let some special case drop in comp, atm it might aswell be removed for the amount of people playing.

And one ‘lovely’ bug for @NxA_Noxie we found a game within ~6 mins when the queue was estimated to take less than 30 mins and we waited for 30 mins and then gave up when the queue was estimated to take less than 15 mins.

Anyone have any other good ideas to stimulate players to take up ranked?

If there would drop only expert cases with the rate of usual cases, I’d play ranked ONLY.

I gave up. While the reintroduction of the 5 man queue was good and the few games I’ve had with the various groups have generally been pretty nice, the rewards and ranking progress gained are nowhere near enough to justify the time spent queuing at the moment. I can probably on average play at least a full stopwatch game in the time it takes for a game to drop for ranked, which is a shame because I do enjoy it when it works

They could do that if they properly wanted to commit to ranked as a flagship thing, but it would be a loss of income no doubt, not an easy decision to make. Trinkets don’t really do it for me, but I’d probably suffer the queue times more easily if there were expert cases up for grabs. Hopefully others would too.

Yes, of course it will be, but, as we clearly see, the “more credits + thing on your gun” works very poorly at this moment. Bigger visual things like a special cards would work for some time, but after that it would be “RNG screwed me up with loadout” howl all over again, like with every event cards so far.

(neverplayseriou) #5

Thing is I don’t only enjoy ranked it’s also atm the only challenging game mode in the game for me, I’m not a fan of the min lvl 20 servers cause it’s way to chaotic in a 7v7 and you won’t learn anything in there.

I play ranked trying to learn tactics from better players which I just can’t learn in pubs

atm I can only play pubs via joining streamers since there you’ll most of the times meet the more skilled players (such as DTkiddin), I can’t even take games via the server browser seriously atm .-. (nobody refer to my name here -,-).

They also could make a new case which has the same droprates for bronze+ as the standard equipment cases, but replaces all lead drops with irons.

Straight 1-2K Credits per Comp win.

SD are probably hoping the new ‘clan system’ will invigorate the comp side of the game. Honestly, comp has been dead for ages, with cups being cancelled and ranked being virtually unplayed. I think it’s going to be too little too late, unfortunately. There’s been plenty of suggestions for extra rewards for ranked matches, but they obviously don’t deem it to be a feasible idea.

(neverplayseriou) #9

I’m having the feeling that with the clan system you mean public parties?

If you mean pub parties well those will kill 5 man queues permanently cause why would anyone bother playing comp when in pub the chance at finding another party will be way more likely.

One of the features they might want to add to the UI of ranked is to show number of players as well as number of matches currently running in your region within ranked.

In Battlefront you see such information and it really helps to focus on those game modes that have more players online.

Maybe this would help. I personally gave up my hope for ranked knowing that it takes forever to jump in a match.

One of the things is even if they play tonns of credits for comp. you cannot buy anything on them, when you have all mercs + several good cards for each.

(bushyg) #12

@neverplayserious Nah, Exedore mentioned it in the Aimee stream very briefly, talking about clan rankings etc in the things coming up in the next 3-6 months. I probably read into it too much. High hopes with low expectations.

I bet if they made it so that every 20-25 ranked games you played = one 100% special skin event case, it would boost ranked in general.

Not just because people want a skin, but because they would eventually realise how much better 5v5 is and probably want to play it more.

Even some exclusive skins for ranked 5v5 and even tournaments/cups etc would be awesome. Bit much to ask?

SD completely screwed the pooch on comp play. They shot themselves in the foot, then jumped off a bridge with a rope tied around their neck. They have no one else to blame but themselves for the horrendous introduction of ranked with DB and allowing the cheating and hacking to go on for so long.

To top that off they have not allowed player run servers, which is where competitive play happens. Players form their own leagues, run their own servers, and promote and police the game.

It’s a fun game, but lack of vision, foresight and proper planning and implementation completely trashed the competitive scene for DB. They are even alienating the remaining playerbase with extremely poorly planned events. There’s a very small window to make things happend and they missed it.

There are not enough people seriously interested, in comp play, anymore. Not with other companies out there doing it bigger and better. Overwatch is going to pull a sizeable amount of people away, even with it not being F2P. It’s sad, it truly is. I love the game, but it’s floundering and treading water right now.

(Szakalot) #16

feeling better now?

(neverplayseriou) #17

? @Szakalot

@MTLMortis gotta disagree on the ow part though :stuck_out_tongue: ow differs a lot from db and is more rewarding towards teamwork rather than individual play, not to mention that it barely requires people to aim :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(Szakalot) #18

DB doesn’t require teamwork? lolololol

edit: i should rephrase: the level of teamwork required in DB is a lot harder to spot, cause its not just about dropping ammo or walking together. Pushing properly against a crossfire can take years to learn.

(neverplayseriou) #19

@Szakalot ow relies way more on teamwork whilst db rewards people more for their individual performance.

(Szakalot) #20

i know what you are trying to say but id rather think of it:

ow - high skill ceiling for teamwork. low skill ceiling for aim&etc.

DB - high skill ceiling for teamwork. high skill ceiling for aim&etc.

So yes, a great player in DB can consistently multikill weaker players, but that doesn’t mean that teamwork isn’t important. Its just that the skill levels for aim etc. allow for a larger range of players. Put that same great player against half-decent players and he will not be able to consistently own them. Two teams of similar skill - teamwork will hold huge sway over who wins.

Admittedly, there is great lot to learn in OW, lots of different movement styles, lots of abilities that require leading targets, there is definitely skill there. But if you are a weak character facing a tank you will never win the duel; which is gladly not the case in DB, where any merc can take any merc down with some great aim.

I like your second statement more, OW relies on teamwork more, while DB has similar demands on both teamwork and skillz.
