Guns Thread

(DouglasDanger) #1

I couldn’t find a guns/weapons thread with search. Apologies if I missed one.

How many guns are there in the game?

Can you change the color of your weapons when you customize it?

What guns are you guys excited about?

This video-- end of genre shows some guns we haven’t seen much of so far.

A true full-auto machine pistol. Sweet!
I saw a bolt-action rifle. You can see it :55 on a character in the video below

minds on the brink
shows the squad automatic weapon, and the bolt action rifle at 1:21

about 34

no

minigun, provided it is mainly to be used as covering fire. I want to be a support player.

I’ve seen a tan Kross and a black Kross, and I think a different obviously resistance Kross. I guess things like weapons color might have changed.

(H0RSE) #4

they said they have about 24 weapons now - not 34, unless you know something I don’t.

24 guns …
I think it’s a big challenge for SD, coz all their previous games weapons, were made for balance, I mean no stats of lacerator . Its really hard job – not make an overpowered weapon , I remember MW2 dual 1887 rifles , make u feel like a godlike cowboy.

I’m almost 100% positive that you can customize the color of your guns. That Kross SMG, for example. I’ve seen quite a few different colored versions of it throughout the various videos.

No idea which weapon I’m most excited about yet. I like shotguns though, and I’d like to see some more of 'em. I wonder what sort of attachments they get…

I also like handguns, and I’m glad to see that they can be tricked out just as much as the other guns. I’m going to spend hours just mixing and matching stuff, I can already tell.

MW2 is also one the most poorly balanced and exploitable games in recent times. Based on both SD’s and Bethesda’s track record, I think they can do a bit better than Infinity ward and Activision did with Modern Warfail 2.

It’s really not that hard to have a good selection of weapons AND have them all be balanced. In Brink’s case, SD also needs to account for the combination of abilities and weapon mods that effect things as well. I know there’s gonna be players who do everything they can make a “sniper” build, and I dread it.

HOW DARE YOU MISTYPE WORDS ON MY INTERNET BLAARRRRHHJGH

There, it needed to be said.:penguin:

I’m pretty excited for all of the guns, but especially the pistols and smgs.

Paul plays container city for Destructoid

Paul’s Kross smg is green in this.

I think the screen at Brink wikia is old, but I have some questions about weapon add-ons and weapon stats.

Based on that screen, the weapon stats are:
damage
range
rate of fire
accuracy
stability
reload speed
equip speed

Add-ons seen so far fall into a few categories-- muzzle accessories (suppressors, brakes), scopes, foregrips and magazines.

This is a dev question-- how do you decide which weapon add-ons do what?
Do heavier magazines reduce the equip speed and make reloading take longer?
Do foregrips aid in stability?
I imagine scopes increase accuracy and maybe range. Range is kind of dependent on ammo too.

(H0RSE) #12

I don’t think scopes would increase the accuracy of the gun, since even in real life, they don’t increase the accuracy of a gun. The accuracy of a weapon isn’t dependent on what type of scope it has. A gun with just an ironsight can be just as accurate or better than a gun with a 4x scope. All scopes do is make it easier to aim, and perhaps add zoom. The overall accuracy of the weapon (aiming down sights AND firing from the hip) is dependent on other factors.

(Reanimator) #13

I would think that increasing stability would also increase accuracy.

(light_sh4v0r) #14

stability could also be related to how much your gun climbs when firing.

(DouglasDanger) #15

I’m not sure what the point is then. Maybe it is like real life, it helps you aim a little faster? AS in you the gamer, not you your character, but you. Putting a red dot on something and shooting it is faster than lining up the sights.

(Nail) #16

scopes don’t make weapons more accurate, they make the shooter more accurate, try hitting a 5cm circle at 500 meters without one, holo and red dot sights (not laser) make acquiring targets easier/faster

(Wraith) #17

An excellent point.

(H0RSE) #18

You kinda answered your own question. I don’t think scopes will increase the accuracy stat of the weapon, but rather make it easier for the player to aim. Just like how I don’t think silencers change any weapon stats - it’s effects the player, not the weapons.

(Reanimator) #19

That’s what I thought, so wouldn’t it be considered part of accuracy?
Stability causes less recoil which in turn makes the gun more accurate, so would there be a correlation in-game when you increase stability?

RoF is separate from clip size and reload speed.
