Gun and Leveling Q's

(KrankyPenguin) #1

Hi, i am new. I have been looking forward to brink since it has been announced, but i havent really participated in this forum.

I have two questions.

  1. Can you customize every weapon in the game, then pick which one you use during the match? Like, it might be every player can only customize 5 primary weapons or something. and if you want another gun, you need to replace it with an old one. There is like 24 guns right? So my final question is… Can we customize and use all 24 guns whenever we want during a match.

  2. SD said you cant unlock everything on your first playthrough. So when you get to the level cap, i figure you can start back over at level 1. But my question is… Do you keep all your characters and customized weapons when you restart you level rank?

-Thanks-

EDIT:This post is pretty wrong. Read the rest of the thread

  1. I’m pretty sure you have one weapon set (primary and secondary) for each character, which you can only edit out of game.
  2. You have 8 character slots, with 2 “costumes” for Resistance and Security for a total of 16. A new character can use any clothing already unlocked, but I’m not sure about weapons.

1: You can change loadout at command posts in game, but yes your actual player can only carry a primary and secondary plus equipment

2: You have 16 slots, cosmetic unlocks are available to all slots, but weapon/attachment unlocks etc. are level specific and need to be unlocked for each char.

16 with 2 for each total of 32.

To be fair it’s only 16, since the only thing you can change between factions is the clothing/appearance not the skills/abilities etc.

I’m not sure on the whole weapon issue. A few builds ago, you could choose between 3-4 weapon loadouts which are customized outside of battle. In the most recent footage, it looks like they might only have 1 weapon loadout?

(H0RSE) #7

I actually heard it was 8x2 as well.

(Linsolv) #8

Hey, H0RSE, did your dude from PAX say anything about being able to change guns in game?

(trigg3r) #9

i’m pretty sure i’ve seen players changing weapons in command posts more than once

The last screen I saw they had three load outs you could choose from: Assault, Heavy, and Close combat. So assume there are 3 load outs. What you would do is populate those load outs with your preferred weapons, then when you are at a command post in game you can switch between them whenever you want.

The questions which I think are unanswered are:

  1. Assuming there are still 3 load outs, are they common across all classes, or can you set your load outs per class? Note that for your abilities, there are load outs per class (this should be obvious since you wouldn’t equip your medic with engineer abilities).

  2. Are they common across body types? It would seem to me that they shouldn’t be, after all your choices as a light are quite different than your choices as a heavy.

So, assuming there are still 3 basic load outs, there could be:
3 load outs per class (x4) per body type (x3) = 36 you’d get to fuss with.
If they are common across classes and specific for each body type there would only be 9.

It would be pretty disingenuous if you ask me to say you had 16 characters when in fact you only have 8, so I think there must be 16.

When you look at the character customization screen, you can look at him either as resistance or security, but saying those are two different characters is a stretch, they are clearly the same guy. Dev’s have even commented that you don’t need a character for each side.

(Linsolv) #11

As you can see, there’s only 1 slot for “Change Weapons,” hence the reason I was curious. In previous builds, all weapon loadouts have been in the primary menu.

I don’t know if this has been asked before; If you level a char half way to discover you don’t like the skills you’ve chosen can you reset them, and if you can is there a price?

(Jess Alon) #13

I always heard otherwise on the bethesda boards… That totally cuts my build plans in half but oh well.

I hope it’s 16.

(Mad Hatter) #14

Yes, you can sell back unwanted skills if you don’t like them. For a full refund if you do it within a day after buying the skill, and for a lesser amount it you sell it back later.

(Schwarzeis) #15

So the character grid is not 16x2 (32)?

That… Yeah, as Jess said, cuts everything I planned in two :<

You have access to your entire customised weapon arsenal via the command posts in the game (though your chosen body type may restrict this to certain weapon categories). Actual weapon customisation takes places entirely outside of matches.

Each character has a Security and Resistance outfit and you can toggle between the two in the appearance customisation menu (note that toggling back and forth is purely for letting you customise your outfits for each faction - it doesn’t have any bearing on what storyline missions are available to you, for example). The Security and Resistance variations do not count as two separate characters.

Is it 16 unique characters or 8?

(Shadowcat) #18

16 unique characters, each with an outfit for both factions.

(Linsolv) #19

Can you delete characters?

(Nex) #20

Yes, i read it somewhere…
