GtkRadiant

Hello,

Been a long time since i’ve done this, but have had a few ideas lately.
I’m currently using Windows 7 RC and have setup GtkRadiant 1.4. The thing is, as some people have found out, the save functions don’t work on Win 7 or Vista. Problem is i hate version 1.5 more than i do Vista!

The autosave function does work however, which puzzles me as to why a manual save will not work.
I’ve been playing around and have discovered the following:

If you start a new map and start building, you cannot save, save as or save selected.
If however, you open a map (this can be just a single brush) you can then save as normal.
You still can’t save as, but all you need to do is goto the maps folder and rename the file.
If you try a save as or save selected, then the save function will no longer work. You will have to re-open the map.
The only thing i can’t do, is save selected. For this i have to use 1.5, save as .map and import it in 1.4

So, if like me you use Win 7 or Vista and don’t like 1.5, all is not totally lost.

I’m not a programmer, but it seems to me that its not completely broken. I was wondering if someone with the skills (knowing the above) might be able to fix it. (That is if no-one has done already, although i havn’t found anything).

Many thanks

P.s. I’ve heard of a 1.6 version based on 1.4 is in development. Havn’t found much info on it but perhaps this new one will fix the issues.

Sorry for offtopic… but why do you dislike 1.5?

Hi,

I do apologise, hate is probably too strong a word.
I don’t really know where to start. I suppose it’s similar to going from xp to win 7 (although i found this pleasantly easy). There are just too many differences.

I think the bottom line here is the fact that i feel WAY more comfortable using 1.4. It kind of reminds me when i tried modelling. I spent weeks trying to get to grips with a couple of programs (gmax was one i think),
and came to the conclusion that i really suck at making models. I can however, make a model and texture it in Radiant, then convert it to .ase perfectly well. (o.k. maybe not perfect, but good enough. I had to make detailed models several times bigger then scale them down. Don’t know how this would affect performance, so i didn’t make highly detailed ones).

The thing is 1.5 doesn’t do what i expect it or want it to do (And i don’t mean making a cup of tea, although that would be nice). These could very well be issues to do with me using Win 7, i don’t know.
Apart from the above problems, 1.4 works perfectly, and it’s something i’m very familiar with.

I know these issues have been around since Vista came out, i was just wondering if there has been a fix for it.
Or, given that it partially works, if anybody with the knowledge or skills could do something about it.

Didn’t mean to offend anyone using 1.5, i just prefer 1.4 that’s all.

Many thanks
