GtkRadiant and q3map2 go GPL

This may not be a big deal for ET mappers, but it’s great news for people who want to use the toolchain for their own games/engines.

Thanks to spog and ttimo for their hard work making this happen.

edit: that includes q3map2 as well.

Maybe I’m dense, but I still don’t see what this means. :banghead:

It means that they have released the source code and permission to use it according to the GPL.
What this means to YOU is that if someone out there thinks of a better way to make GTK Radiant work,
they can grab the code, make changes to it and produce their own mapping program.

This gives us a chance at some better tools if someone out there wishes to create them.

The source has been available for a long time, and user contributions were accepted, however the previous license restricted you to using gtkradiant and q3map2 to make content for quake3, (even making maps for et may technically have been violation :moo:) It also restricted commercial use.

Now you can use it to make content for whatever you want. The gpl restricts what you can do with the source code, but places no restriction at all on what you do with the output.
