IIRC, map files are just text. Have you tried to have a look at the offending line in the file to see if anything is obviously out of the ordinary?

([rD]MrPink) #3

Yes, that would be the way to go. Just use notepad or something.

(SuperC) #4

isnt there an easier way, there is no way of knowing which line it is anyways cause they arent numbered

(damocles) #5

The only alternative is to open the mapname.bak file in your maps folder, that will be you previous, previous save.

(evillair) #6

Get http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ and open up the .map. It has line numbering.

(chavo_one) #7

Good grief!!! If you can’t even use notepad how are you ever going to learn radiant? Open up your map file in notepad, and press ctrl+g, then enter the line number you are looking for.

(Irrelevant) #8

Uhh… Ctrl-G does nothing in notepad.

Just tried it.

:suspicious:

(Flash95) #9

I think he ment TextPad.

(Irrelevant) #10

OK.

I use SciTE for everything.

Googled up a link for TextPad. And discovered an advantage of SciTE over it - it’s free (and open source)!

PS: Yes, I’m one of those open-source hippies.

(chavo_one) #11

No I meant notepad, you know, the bare bones editor that comes with windows?
Ctrl+g will open up the goto line box. Or if you don’t like shortcuts, click edit>Go To…

Of course, I’m running w2k, but I can’t imagine that m$ actually added functionality to notepad after all these years?!

(digibob) #12

They did, scarily enough. I don’t think ctrl-g was introduced until 2k.

(damocles) #13

I have ctrl+G on XP but it’s permenantly shaded grey for not usable in the menu  (shortcut doesn’t work either)

(Lostmyed) #14

It works in XP Pro yipee… Thats what the xtra £80 was for… :disgust:

(damocles) #15

Hmm, I have pro. Wonder why it doesn’t work on mine

(Doc) #16

Nope. You won’t know what’s wrong with the file unless you examine its contents. Get yourself one of those editors above with line numbering, then check the offending line.

(Hewster) #17

The only time I have had this error was when de-compiling one of my old
maps from its .bsp… is this the case with your map SuperC ?

Basically the .bsp wasn’t de-compiled fully, there were several lines of code missing
from the resultant .map file.

Hewster

EDIT: Crimson editor all the way

(SuperC) #18

(Wraith2k3) #19

(damocles) #20
