You must download a program called X11 from Apple, it allows ported programs such as GtkRadiant and GIMP to run natively on windows, where as usually they are built for Linux.
Download the latest X11, then launch the application. Once the console window comes up, close it (its useless to you) and then open whatever program you need. (gtkradiant for example) The program should now launch unless you did something wrong in installation… don’t worry, thats REALLY easy to do, you don’t wanna know how many times I have had to redownload gtkradiant 1.5 for both Mac and PC.
p.s. in LOTS of cases… 1.4 is the only application that runs while 1.5 does nothing, even with X11 running. I still don’t know why or how to fix it, something to do with running it on PPC, but it does the same thing for me on Intel macs. Just bite the bullet and use 1.4…
and they mentioned above about Parallels, I would strongly suggest that over BootCamp because Parallels can actually run as a window, with both Windows and Mac running side by side. (resource intensive, but useful, SO useful… I wish I had it
) BootCamp requires a restart, and EVERYONE hates restarting.
Edit: About ET not starting… make a new .txt file and put in this: seta r_colorbits “32”
Name the file autoexec, and then press Apple + I to go to its info. Under the File Name and Extension tab, rename .txt to .cfg. (simply renaming file doesn’t work in 10.5 like it used to in 10.3.9
) place autoexec.cfg in your etmain folder.
The game should now load, and stop making those weird sounds while it does.
No idea why this works, but it does.
