gtk gensurf

Is there a way to adjust the heights of the terrain developped by gensurf except for manually.
If I make a bmp with white being the highest and black the ground floor, my oh so big hills are like little things

I was also looking if there were other ways in developing a terrain, like other programs or so.

You could have a look at Fate - very easy to learn and fun to work with.

Download Fate 0.13

I thought there was some parameter you could use to heighten it.

See 2Bit’s tutorial: Making terrain using GtkGenSurf.

If I’m not mistaken, the second parameter on the bitmap tab ā€œMap color 255 toā€ adjusts the height of the mesh in units.

I just discoverd I could adjust the height in gensurf, however the other programs look more handy and fun to work with

Now, I’m defenatly gonna try fate

Fate is tempting, but watch out. It is very good at producing alot of brushes.

(th0rn3) #8

Yea I noticed at the screenshots

I still recommend making your terrain manually. You get the greatest amount of control for a trade in of time, but its, imo, very much worth it.

same opinion, it’s easier too… at least for me

(Pegazus) #11

I tottaly agree  The easiest way, no need to mess with other programs ^^

(IndyJones) #12

it’s definetly not easier. how can you even say that!?

(Pegazus) #13

Well at first it needs some time to get use to and using it by hand you have more ability of turning the terrain perfect. Imo ^^ Easy

Thats true - the edge length by default is 48 i think - i used 144 on my map.

in radiant 1.4-

lock x and y
press v
drag

always been that way for me

Fate looks quite cool… worth to check.

How do you lock x and y?

(TNR360) #18

in radiant 1.4.0

near the free rotation tool there’s three buttons X Y Z, click on X and Y to lock them, that way you can only move a vertice up and down, I use all three of those buttons alot in different situations, it saves a lot of time.

I cant find how to do this in 1.5.0

(aaa3) #19

in 1.5, sadly, its absent. u can do without lock tho, what is more, its not even that hard w/o it; but yea it would be nice to have it.

(TNR360) #20

if you do it without lock you’ll get more errors and have to use brush cleanup more often
