I place some brushes/entities manually with ‘snap to gird’ not selected but somehow thay always end up being snapped to the grid at some point. This is so annoying, and worse; I do some tiny adjustments on grid 0.5 and 0.25, with grid snapping on, but still, they change, they all end up adjusted to grid 1. And sometimes I even find brushes which should be next to each other, 10s of units away. Is this normal?

Yeah, that’s normal - the sub 1 unit grid is for editing patch vertices and not much else - brush vertices are all snapped to the 1 unit grid or higher.
