Grenade types

(TJskwared) #1

hi there if anyone has spotted any special grenade types please list them here, im intrested in playing soldier and the grenades appeal to me, so far i only know of flashbang and a molatov, there are laz nades for the medics and stickies for the operatives but im wandering about the soldier class, cheers

ps. head over to my other post ‘cheeky gameplay’ for some pretty sweet vids that i know alot of you havnt seen. peace :stroggtapir:

Theres also EMP which disables turrets for a while, and can be used to slow down the enemies charge on the objective. The soldier class itself from my understanding, is the only class that has access to molotovs.

Edit: I should add…in case you havent played etqw, emp nades are also used to disable the MCP, otherwise known as the bot in Brink

I’ts also used for slowing down charges placed by soldiers and disabling turrets for awhile, in addition they do not stack, so if several are using operative they have to time their grenades to achieve full effect

^ already mentioned mate

(Luftwaffle) #5

-Flashbang (Soldier only? Probably. Self explanatory)
-Molotov (Soldier only, explodes on contact, does not share a timer with normal grenades, so soldiers can throw two grenades very quickly)
-Sticky Bomb (Operative only, sticks to enemies and can only be removed by their teammates (I’ve heard only Operatives can do this as well)
-EMP Grenade (Operative only, disables turrets, and slows down HE charges planted on objectives)
-Lazarus Grenade (Medic only, seems like an AOE heal)
-Mines (Not really a grenade, but Engineer only, and can only be seen by Operatives)

Thats all we know of right now. I’ve heard we may be getting some other explosive possibilities as well, but I haven’t seen anything yet.

Soldier may be able to chuck his nades further than others.

Can you guys provide any links to this stuff? Or is this a wish list based on speculation?

(Crytiqal) #8

What about the good ol’ frag grenade?

(Luftwaffle) #9

Well, of course there will be frag grenades. I know a few grenades (like the Sticky Bomb) replace your normal grenade, while other grenades (such as the Molotov, and probably some other utility grenades) can be used along side them.

Also, the Operative is getting yet another grenade.
-Caltrop Grenade: explodes into a bunch of Caltrops that last for 30 seconds. Cause heavy damage if you run over them, but no damage if you walk or crouch. Looks like yet another grenade to give the Operative defensive utility.

we know about the operative’s caltrop grenade, but you need to provide links for the other stuff.

(Luftwaffle) #11

Too many sources really, but I’ll do my best.
-Flashbang (Seen in the Container City gameplay featuring dev commentary and “Jolly”. Soldier only is just speculation.
-Molotov (Confirmed for a while now, can’t find the exact interview where they say that you can throw a Molotov and then a grenade very rapidly)
-Sticky Bomb (Some kinda recent interview I think, where they also talk about EMP grenades)
-EMP Grenades (Talked about in some thread here by a Splash Damage dev, also a few more recent interviews)
-Caltrop (Very recent interview, can’t remember the name, but it was tied in to a 2 part preview)
-Lazarus (I’ve only heard the name thrown around a few times, otherwise all speculation)
-Mine (Seen in Objective Perspective Part 2, they’ve also been discussed in various articles, including one where they were described as “The closest thing to a one-hit kill.” Of course I can’t remember which interview that was)

As you can see, I’m not very good with remembering sources, only the information they contain.

Some of this stuff has recently been mentioned in previews, the rest of the info has been around for ages. If you have some doubts, or you think posters are just making this stuff up click this link:wink:

(Cankor) #13

well, I haven’t seen anything which says a sticky bomb replaces your regular nade. Why would you be able to use a molotov alongside a regular nade but not a sticky bomb?

I think it’s more likely that an operative carries a EMP grenade that is maybe just a little less powerful than a regular grenade but can be used as one in a pinch, but it has the added bonus of the EMP effect. So in this wild ass guess of a scenario* the EMP replaces the regular nade.

Doug’s just trying to separate the speculation from the chaff (not everyone is as considerate as I am in clearly stating what they are wildly guessing about :)… but yeah the constant requests to post the source are a bit annoying. No offense Doug.

*This post is the actual source for this info.

I heard there’s a “love grenade” that makes you throw down your weapon and embrace the nearest player.

(Humate) #15

I’m just being helpful
That way, if there is any suspicion that its a guess - a search can be made to verify.

(TJskwared) #16

can i get a link to that caltrop interview?

Yeah, I know there is a search button. Thanks for the reminder.

Will the molotovs cause area denial the same way AMN grenades did in SOF 2?

“Grenades deal damage based on your class.”
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/7810264/sneak_peek_hands_on_look_at_brink_with_pg2.html?cat=15

As this journalist said that operatives plant and disarm mines, and plant bombs to do objectives, I would take this with a grain of salt.

(Quite a few journalists have made the mistake of saying that operative plants the bombs. Odd.)
