Greece map W.I.P. screenshots Updated

(Irrelevant) #21

I meant the mountains all being in a neat row like that is kinda unrealistic - like they’re cut from a sheet of cardboard.

My advice was putting a clip brush level with the tops of the hills, so you can’t look down the back of them, and adding a skyportal.

looks nice

Thank you.

(lennyballa) #30

As I see the screenies I would like to add a little fact on greek columns - just to make it easier to you to let them look more realistic.

From the structure it seems as if you did doric columns (one of the three great orders which the greeks used mainly around 700-500 d.c.).

I have scanned a picture from a book, where you can see the three different column types in detail:

Here’s a short explanation in english on the column types:
http://www.arlington.k12.ma.us/AncientGreece/greek_columns.htm

As you can see you have forgotten to add a capital to the columns. The base for Doric columns often has been left away.
It would look much more realistic if you could add the capital to the columns but for sure it is not neccessary (e.g. it kills fps or whatever)
Just thought you’d like to know.

(lennyballa) #32

i know about it, but jep it’s kills fps if i use it to much :frowning: That’s why i’m now using more houses and stuff

hello Lennyballa! I’ve noiced your thread… and as I’m Greek, I’ll just help you out a bit! erm… there are no palm trees in Greece, except perhaps for the ones in Crete ( island south of mainland Greece). Thus not too much sand even, unless you are planning to make it a beach thing!! :bump: You can always gear it toward the BATTLE OF CRETE - map of Greece, which would be very much in accordance with historical facts!! The Battle of Crete was a key battle in 1944 (if my memory serves me well) in which the Greek army managed to stall the German troops and thus created a diversion which was desisive for the war’s outcome (as the German troops weren’t really prepared to be defeated in Crete! muha!

But if you want a more MAINLAND feel to your map, here’s some ideas.

http://www.paramythia.gr/enpage8.html

that’s from a village in the north of Greece (pay attention to the pictures of the OLD Paramythia, if you wish to be closer to historical detail). Notice also that all houses have TILED roofs!!! (it’s one of the telltale signs of Greek architecture!

Your effort is marvelous! Keep up the good work!

lenny, this definetely looks better than your Atlantic Wall map, that’s for sure.

(lennyballa) #35

Thx, but if you look in next pics you see that i removed the sand and palms

(lennyballa) #36

Just a new screenshot

(flashkillaman) #37

Great

(Ubiquitous) #38

That looks pretty nice, keep up the good work. I couldn’t get any other pics to show, apparently your pics have ran over their allotted bandwidth.

(G0-Gerbil) #39

Not tryting to put a damp squib in things, but what’s the framerate and your computer specs?
Looks like it might have the potential to run fairly slowly 'cos that’s a lot of map in sight all at once

(lennyballa) #40

Well, when i test i don’t compile with vis, but from all places (also the one at the last pic) i get a framerate from around 60-70, the lowest i can get is 50. I have a p4 1.7 ghz, 256 mbram, geforce 3 (oldest, non - TI) and about 160 gb harddisk size. I run it at 1024x800 (or something, it starts with the 1024). All on high, full lightning, all 32 bit (and one 24 bit). Isn’t bad isn’t it?
