Great Game

(Rocker1257) #1

Just thought I would post about how great this game is. Despite what many people believe I have no problems finding full games (Xbox 360) and play regularly. The game is so fresh amongst other shooters and is great fun. Tonight I was playing with 7 people, all with mics, for hours and we all had a great time. We had such a great time that I felt the need to post this and thank Splash Damage for such an enjoyable game. I will be playing Brink even after the major titles this fall launch and so will everyone I talked to. I’ve gotten a few friends into the game and eagerly awaiting clan support. The game doesn’t deserve the negativity it receives in my opinion, and I hope it doesn’t affect the potential of a sequel. This game is highly enjoyable and I have met many people through it. Just felt the need to say that.

Lol this is about the same markup as the other guys post?

  1. Tell them you have full games, np (check)
  2. Tell how long you played and you have lots of friends (check)
  3. Talk about clan support (check)
  4. Dismiss the negativity and tell you would buy a sequel (check)

Bethesda is having a “save the ARK” campaign on these forum boards?

The core gameplay is very good. Its just that not many people fit into its target audience. Its target audience are people who want great teamwork, but want the combat ceiling to be low enough that teamwork and decision making and maneuvering is 95% of the game, and aiming is only a small portion. If you are in the target audience, then the gameplay is great and your only complaints would be about bugs and lack of certain features.

Of course, you can say that any game is good for its target audience as long as it occupies a space that no other game occupies…and that is the point. Rating the core design of a game as good or bad is usually pointless. Things we can objectively rate are bugs, features, exploits, overpowered stuff, etc. But most games are good from some perspective.

The core gameplay is very good if you are in the game’s target audience. There are issues with bugs, optimization and lack of certain features, but I understand that Splash Damage has done their best to polish, including with post-release support, but that it simply requires too large of a budget for a game that has such a small audience.

First of all, I have to totally agree to the thread starter

@Crytiqal: So I got you right that it’s okay to complain and moan but people who like the game are not allowed to post their opinion here?? OMG
Why you post in threads you’re not interested in then? To much spare time?

(ivor1977) #6

Yeah, I recently picked this game up on the cheap for PS3. I’ve gotta say, I love it. Of course its not the perfect shooter (thats a long way off), but SD have the right idea. Hopefully they can breathe a bit of freshness into it every now and then to keep us interested.

Its all well and good to go around trumping and griping, but why try to spoil other people’s fun if they like the game and want to come on here and say positive things about it? This Rocker guy is a new forum member, if anything it’d be cool to welcome him aboard! Not only that its easy to go round pointing out the negative things. Brink does a lot of innovative things and overall is a fun game especially if you have cool peeps to game with. Maybe that’s what he’s missing?

Welcome to the forums Rocker!

To be fair, his post appears to be more observational with a little satire thrown in. Don’t think he said anywhere that people can’t say they like they game.

P.S. Brink really doesn’t innovate outside of the FPS ‘parkour’.

(Rocker1257) #9

@Crytiqal haha I knew someone was going point that out. We were playing last night and I mentioned I was gona post here so he did to. Don’t worry after we saw we both posted we made sure the other 5 people didn’t. Thanks for the welcome as well wolfnemesis75!

Hey Rocker1257,

nothing personal against you
I just thought it was funny how all of a sudden 3 people (yesterday counting) came onto the forum and their first post had the same markup as what I mentioned

Don’t mind wolfnemesis, hes a troll

Welcome on the forumboards tho

Thanks, and I in no way took it personal. Once I found out he posted here to I expected it  We had to tell the other people we were playing with to not post threads because then it’ll look like someone was making multiple accounts. 7 threads in a row starting with “So I was playing with 7 people tonight…”

(INF3RN0) #13

Wolfnem’s always just mad he has less than 7 friends.

(yoyohip) #14

It really is a fun and addicting game. SD just needed to clean up the mechanics a fair amount. The parkour system is nice and innovative, but very bumpy and not smooth like it should’ve been. A lot of things of things were cool about the game, but not amazing because it didn’t seem like it was perfected, just quickly put in. Aside from the shaky mechanics, the game is fun and their is no doubt in my mind that it should get more praise then people have been giving it. Unlike most people playing other FPS games, the community on brink, even though small, is dedicated and full of players that will ultimately stick together and spend late nights enjoying this game.

Hahaha I felt the same way although I’m not sure Bethesda would stoop that low, yet those who can know who they are. The funny thing is a game with a happy active community doesn’t need painfully forced testimonials pasted into forums, the users are generally too busy talking about the game to have enough time to do that kind of stuff.

Also, while I’m [strike]t[/strike]rolling. Why isn’t the BHC in here complaining about people making the same thread over and over again. I mean we know people like the game, do they have to start a new thread EVERY TIME [/drama queen]

(cadco96) #16

Hahaha, I love that this post is getting more traffic than mine. I knew that Rocker was going to post something, I didn’t have any idea that we’d both have such similar points! It’s always nice to read some positive stuff from the community on forums, for both players AND developers I am sure. It certainly helps those trying to decide whether or not to buy the game to see both negative AND positive outlooks on the game

(Humate) #17

Yep… im sure there are a myriad of people out there who are influenced by this forum. cough
They could also visit metacritic and read both user reviews and critic reviews.

Xbox - http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/brink
PC - http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/brink

Believe it or not, its rated slightly higher on PC.

Im with you all the way rocker… we had a great time last night and i am officially looking forward to every night we all get together… the game was ment to be played we were playing it… a bunch of dudes who get a long and all have mics… i would also defenitly preorder a brink 2

(wolfnemesis75) #19

I think Brink is one of the best games to come out in a long time and deserves consideration for Best Shooter and Game of the Year. Yeah, we know all the negative stuff, but what it did to carve out its own niche and how pushed the envelope and brought a new type of team based gameplay to a wider audience, deserves high praise. Best shooter of 2011 and one of the best games to come out in a long time. For that reason, I think it deserves Game of The Year consideration! Can’t wait for more.
