Great Game, Needs Improvements..

(.chip) #1

Love the game so far. It’s showing real promise especially as its beta and we’re only playing with half the stuff. Okay pat on the back Splash Damage as I’m an ex ET and RTCW player who was lost to the dark Battlefield side and now I’ve seen the light. However, I need to get a few things off my chest, the games got so much potential but for the love of god please consider a few things:-

Lack of Stopwatach Servers
This has been stated a gazillion times but seriously, why did you change this to 2 servers per region? I don’t want to play objective yet I’m forced to due to a lack of servers. Spin up a few more blades or whatever, this should be Dirty Bombs default fecking mode. Sort it ta.

Merc / Loadout screen
I like the merc/ loadout card sytem, but I agree it could do with a few changes especially for competetive play. What really annoys me is that I chose a merc for a game and I’m stuck with that one gun all game, no chance of changing. In other games you can change weapons on the fly. My suggestion is that it’s just a 'Merc Lock in ’ during the choosing map screen. I understand the need to limit the mercs which is fine but why not let people change loadout cards for said mercs during the game on the fly? I may have taken an mg into the game as proxy but then realised its all close quaters fighting and want to change to shotgun. at least consider it as being stuck to the same weapon for two rounds of stopwatch is well, annoying.

Arty, needs a proper machine gun and other improvments
Arty’s fun to play but he’s seriously underpowered. His single shot/burst fire rifles are well, just ok. The single shot one is a actually a lot of fun now that it’s had it’s recent buff but there’s times where I just want to go normal semi auto like I can on every other merc but I can’t (unless I’m mistaken). Half the reason people don’t play this merc is not due to his ability but the weapons he uses. Speaking of his ability, Don’t buff the cool down, buff the speed it takes to use it or reduce the delay while getting hit.

Fragger Needs a health reduction
At the moment everyone knows Fragger is a bit OP and I know a lot of the mercs that counter him aren’t in the game yet but that doesn’t change the fact the he needs nerfing in the short term as he is just to good at the moment and it’s not very fun facing him . People have been mentioning a change to his grenades or other things but i think as a temp measure until all the other mercs are added a health reduction of 10 or 20 would be a nice start.

Mounted MG weapon Sounds
Non existent half the time. I keel over dead in a second or two and then look to find I’ve been mounted MG’d. It’s a hefty mounted weapon. Make it sound hefty. Make it sound so that if you’re getting hit by it you know your getting hit by it.

No Seperate ADS/Scope Sensitivity
Basic thing, especially for snipers. Can this be implemented asap.

Cheater Configs
What year are we in? I thought it was 2015 but judging by all the whingebags on here we’re back in 2001. I understand a game has minimum pc specs. Hell I build a pc to meet or superceed those specs (hello star citizen). I’ve been around a long time with numerous pc builds and I understand when I look at game specs if my machine doesn’t meet those specs then it’s tough luck. I 've spent many months saving for upgrades. What I don’t accept is people using blatent cheating configs that remove branches/foliage/smoke etc all in the aid of ‘MAX FPS’. Why do those configs need a ‘bright skins’ setting? Thats not speeding anything up, thats just trying to gain an advantage. I picture the poor new player who joins trainyard and he pops out of the ammo room by the trainyard bridge door and he wonders why the mounted mg in the other ammo room is shooting at him as if he sees him clear as day, well that’s because even though new player sees a big tree in the way with lots of leaves mr config changer mg gunner does see him clear as day with a bright skin on top. Thats not fair and it forces everyone to play with the config if they don’t want to be at a disadvantage. A low gfx setting should be applied where no map/scenery changes are affected and no bright skins. All other config adjustments should be banned. Then the game is still fair.

Change CrossHair Colour/ UI Improvements
More options for the crosshair please. Changing the colour would be nice. Also give us the option in game to change things around in the UI. At the moment people can do things with new configs and that’s my point, it’s not a level playing field. Put this stuff in the game options and it’s a different ball game, everyone can do it/knows about it so it’s all good. I for one would like the mini map a bit bigger and the spawn timer somewhere more noticable. But, that’s just me

Increase The Player pool
Enough said, More people needed for match making  , plus more options maybe ‘best of 3 or 5 games’ with teams staying conected during the whole game and not having to find a new game after each round.

Okay there’s tons more stuff I’m sure I’ll remember after this but I just want to shoot more peeps which is a good sign. So I’ll end this mini rant here. Grats again Splash Damage, the core game is shaping up great and with a few tweaks it will be amazing (rankings, drafting, more maps, more gametypes, and a few of the above mentioned issues sorted) Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

I also agree with what Chip said, well I would be salty about a Fragger nerf but I’am biased! One point I would like to add is revive protection.

If you compare this to ET, ETQW and RTCW the revive protection just doesn’t seem as long or maybe it’s the HP you are revived with, but more often than not if I die in the front line of a fight and get revived, by the time I can start shooting I’m down again. Feel the revive protection could use a tweak.

Also feel that we should be able to gib faster, at the moment unless you can hit the enemies head it takes a few too many bullets to gib on the body. Wondering why nades can’t gib a body either, I’m sure some people will be like “amg give nades more useful things blah blah” but in all other wolf style games nades can gib and it just makes sense, even if a fragger chooses to use a nade to gib it means one less to throw at your team

Just some points I wanted to add! Good job so far SD!

Agree on chips post, Also Aura healing station still needs a balance - maybe make merchs heal less or slower if they were shoted few seconds ago (2-3 sec) and then start the normal heal so that can’t just run away with 10% health to healing station and 3 sec later their health is full…

(ATTEM) #4

I believe you can change crosshair color in-game only. I think its either under HUD category or Controls. There’s red, blue, green, or the default white. I’m using green dot crosshair as of now.

@ PrimeLearner and DadoPeja I agree that the healing mechanics need some tweaking. Maybe reviving people with a quick revive gives slightly more heath but puts a small cooldown on paddles or the health station heals less per second. All good input, these things need discussing. People need to understand the old RTCW and ET mechanics with the revive trains, part of the game innit?

(smartIsland) #6

you can change crosshair color in game

(Jeebs) #7

Agree with OP.

Ditching the speed vs health attributes would solve many balance issues.

(.chip) #8

Didn’t Realise changing crosshair colour was available in game, cheers will sort it tonight. The other points still need addressing though

(Zenity) #9

Well yeah, most of those points are pretty obvious, and if the game wouldn’t need improvements it wouldn’t be in Beta still.

Merc / Loadout screen

This is more of a design decision though. Both have pros and cons, and personally I agree with SD’s decision to keep it locked in. It requires some forethought and avoids the possible situation where you are forced to change your loadout rapidly during a match to react to changing situations. Since SD made a conscious decision about this, I wouldn’t expect this to change. I’m sure everybody can get used to this eventually.

UI Improvements

I would say it is a level playing field. People will share their configs and you can choose the one you prefer. People are also already working on a web based editor for it. Adding an editor to the game would be a lot of work, so I would not expect this anytime soon if ever. Custom HUDs is pretty much a power user feature, most users should be fine with the default HUD (if it’s lacking in some way, then the default HUD should be improved).

On the config issue, I’d like to see what the official word is from Splash Damage on what’s acceptable. I’m not a great player, but it’s bleeding obvious that some players can see you really clearly and also aren’t impeded by a lot of the environmental effects (dirty thrown up by explosions etc) that are part of the game.

These things do tend to get nailed down for competitive play, but it feels like it may force a lot of players to go low-res custom config to just be able to get that edge in normal play. And having played ET (and Q3A before that) I know that rock-solid fps, clean visuals etc do make a difference to a players performance in a game as twitchy as this.
