Graphics Issues I'm Having...Admins and Mods please read this

(Amg Zone) #21

The lag is what I was talking about in my previous post btw.

Sure, check this photos from another post
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1189598-brink-graphic-issues/
or
better yet go to http://www.gameblurb.net/featured/versus-brink-video-and-screenshot-comparison/
they run a vid comparison between the playstation, another console, and the xbox…
check the post patch
check the time delay to be able to read the sbillboard on the station
maybe that would help validate our claim

I LOL’d so hard at that comment, that I had to creat my own account here on the SD Forums.

AND, I completelyyyy agree with OP and other posters about graphical issuances. I have a kind’ve old 32" Philips LCD. An HDMI cord I got from GameStop in the past completely ruined my T.V.s main audio, and certain “hues” of green (from time to time, randomly).

BUT, I know that can’t be the thing messing it up cause all my other games look perfect like they should (Reach, New Vegas, GoW3 Beta, etc.) …

I’m going to try and clear my cache and reinstall Brink to the HDD and see if that’ll do anything at all… LOL. If not, I guess i’m waiting on a patch/update to fix it for us M$ feeders. (XBL players) :penguin:

(Amg Zone) #24

I’ve tried clearing cache and reinstalling and it did nothing, guess we have to wait for a patch …if it comes

(blueostrichdos) #25

Saw those Gameblurb videos, didn’t think they help much. Both versions to me look nothing like the videos released prior to this game coming out. I’m uploading my video to my computer now to see how it turns out. Never really recorded myself gaming until now (which should also say something)

(JGBarnes) #26

Ha! Thanks, Hippnotic!

I wish so badly I had the resources to do great screen caps for evidence of this. The best I can describe it as is just mad jaggies EVERYWHERE, which I know is going to be on every console for every game, but believe me, not like this. This is unacceptable.

The other obtrusive issue is the insanely low res textures. Not just low-res. INSANELY low res to the point of being pixelated like a wall in a PS1 game. That is no exaggeration whatsoever. A PS1 GAME! The same simile can be applied to that of the skies in the cutscenes: PS1 textures – or textures that are supposed to be high res that have been accidentally blown up or zoomed in way too close. This is the best example I could find of this: http://colin.vcn.com/images/brink/IMG_20110512_180450.jpg Thanks, Iruel for the link. And I know this can’t be attributed to a stylistic choice for a metal texture because the sky looks like this as well.

And, of course, the overall murky haze in nearly every map. The aquarium is especially bad. I have no idea where this murkiness could stem from. Perhaps a bloom lighting bug? A shadow bug? A combination?

Oh, and a big thank you to whomever it was that was grabbing screens/or video.

(Amg Zone) #27

I really hope they fix this, I love the game but it’s really annoying seeing these jaggies and textures evrywhere

(blueostrichdos) #28

Video I made, you can see best when you change it to 720p. it’s still not great quality, especially notice when I sprint that random blue color overtakes the screen. If anybody knows how to remedy this or tips for taking videos using a digital camera let me know. Never recorded a game before. Shows the texture popping, jagged edges, and heavy pixelation. At times the game looks decent, things are rendered smoothly and you’ll notice it, but at other times it looks downright ugly.

Nice one for uploading that video blueostrichdos, it exactly mimics the issue I and all of my friends are experiencing on the 360. (I am using component, one of my friends is using VGA and the other HDMI)

I have been keenly following this game since I saw the first videos last year which blew me away and feel very disappointed that the games graphic don’t even come close to any of the pre launch videos I’ve seen. It would seem the “Sparse Virtual Texturing” is a little too sparse!..

http://www.thebitbag.com/2010/04/13/brink-dev-says-xbox360-can-handle-gigs-of-textures-on-screen/

“Xbox360 has received another leap in graphics thanks to this new technology called ” Sparse Virtual Texturing ” from the creators of BRINK. BRINK’s in-game graphics are so close to the cinematic trailer that even Crytek will have to take notice and be ready to show off how Crysis 2 can run on the 360 in comparison.”

On a side note, maybe I’m reading into this the wrong way but does the fact the Crispy is asking for photographic evidence mean they they don’t know about this problem? Or are they merely trying to gauge the extent of the issue we’re all having (I hope it’s the latter!). If they are aware of this can anyone provide a link to a page where they have admitted a, they are aware of the texture and aliasing issues and b, what (if anything) they are doing to address these? If none exist could someone from Splash Damage post here with some reassuring words?

(Amg Zone) #30

If it’s not sorted, brink is going back to the shop and I will boycott splash damages games and tell friends and followers of my website to join me. I hyped this game up and gt many more customers for SD and they kick me in the kidlehopper by brining out this ugly excuse for a game.

Fix it please!

(JGBarnes) #31

Here is a small and quick index of problems presented in the video. NOTE: all of these issues look even worse in full HD.

1:04 First good, but not ONLY, example of bad texture pop

1:32 Extremely low res floor texture. Many textures in the game look like this. Not just the floors.

4:57, 5:26 You mentioned a “random blue color overtakes” your screen while sprinting. However, you are not sprinting in either of these examples of blue shadows. I see this on my 40" Sony through HDMI. The shadows ARE ACTUALLY THAT BLUE in this game! The darker the level, the worse the shadowed areas are.

6:57 Nothing against you, blueostrichdos – you can’t tell from the low quality of the video – but here is a good example of the terribly low res texture used for the skies I’ve been complaining about. This is easily far worse when viewing it through HDMI, 1080p. It’s one of the uglier textures in the game.

The only thing left to find is a good example of bad jaggies. Unfortunately, due to the low quality video, the jaggies have been blurred out. Rest assured they are there. It’s the worst for distant characters (starting at a distance of about 20 feet; give or take) or in the “Be More Objective” challenge seeing all the crossing bars, fencing, and stairways. It’s a mess.

(Crispy) #32
Hi there. I have been monitoring this thread but sorry for not replying sooner.

Is anyone able to take a set of photos comparing the two different levels of performance?
To be clear, I’m asking for photos regarding the first post in the thread, not for a comparison between PS3 and 360.

At release, my friend goes to get game at midnight, goes to his pal’s house and puts it in their xbox. First thing he noticed was how appalling the graphics were. Described it to me later as poor textures, dark, muddy image. Very low resolution. Thought maybe it was their tv, a 40" Vizio (he dislikes Vizio hardcore)

Versus…

so he went home to play on his tv (A 5 year old Panasonic flat screen but rear projection capable of 1080i). His xbox elite was hooked up with HD components on the 720p setting. Said it looks almost exactly like the pre-release S.M.A.R.T. videos released online for our viewing pleasures. Few to no texture pop-ins, said it looks smooth and everything, as opposed to what he had witnessed earlier.

(Realgent) #33

Hi Crispy, thanks for replying, can you confirm whether you guys are aware of the texture and aliasing issues?

(Amg Zone) #34

Yeah, are you aware of it and is it patchable?

(JGBarnes) #35

Upon playing more I’ve discovered the appallingly low-res jaggies aren’t ALWAYS there. It seems that either it dips in and out or over the course of a long game it gets worse. Haven’t experimented enough to see if it’s one or the other or both. I did, however, notice some guns, especially the revolver while in game, look exceptionally low res. I’m not speaking of JUST the textures. I’m speaking of the geometry being very low res; a screen-door effect, if you will.

(Realgent) #36

Personally I experience the low resolution characters more when looking down the scope at players more than a few meters away

(Realgent) #37

Just to add to this, if Splash Damage are not able to replicate this issue can you let us know what setup you’re using?

(blueostrichdos) #38

JG Barnes thanks for the response. I agree that the jaggies are definitely hard to pick out in my video because of the quality. Was hoping somebody here would give me some advice on how to record things better. I imagine part of it is recording the tv screen that causes problems. It’s a shame because, after viewing it a few times, it actually seems like the video does the game some justice when it comes to the jaggies. Things seem to look smoother than they actually are for me.

I also agree when you say they only seem to be there at times. It’s like certain parts of the map maybe? All I know is that, The 1st and 3rd Challenges are the best examples of the issues.

As for the sky, the video kinda makes it look like it’s the video making the sky look bad. Wasn’t able to capture that like I wanted, but I think part of it is that it’s just so bad. But at times today I was playing and found myself not noticing any issues. All offline, mind you.

(blueostrichdos) #39

Oh btw Crispy, as soon as possible I will try to take pictures of the different tvs. Unfortunately I happened to be back in my hometown where my buddy still lives and now I’m back where I live. If it weren’t 2 hours away I’d make a trip but I really don’t have that kinda time. Hopefully the video helped show what I’m seeing on my tv though. A photograph would more than likely turn out better qualities

(Sibear) #40

I’ve not seen any of these issues at all which I kinda find weird. I’m using a 360s with HDMI and 1080p. I haven’t seen any of the slow texture loading either. I was real wary of buying this game after reading all the negative reviews but SD seem to be on the ball in fixing things quick and communicating with their community which is a breath of fresh air after the Crysis community.
